Video of the day: the history of AMG

You probably know that the tuning arm of Mercedes Benz is called AMG. You probably don’t know that it was started by two men in a shed, and a love of the old Merc 300.

 

Mssrs Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher set up shop in Großaspach as an independent tuning firm, and their resultant ‘AMG’ quickly became the master at making mighty Mercedes. And seeing as we’ve just driven the new SLK 55 AMG, we thought it would be a good time for a quick visual history lesson in the form of this informative video offering.
