The new Vios is slightly taller and longer than the out-going model. A new exterior design element introduced to the Vios is the “catamaran” roof – which is said to “evoke airflow” to boost aerodynamics. Aero fins on the side mirrors and tail lamps, create air vortexes that is said to help stabilize and refine the car’s manoeuvrability. New for the Vios are two body colours: Quartz Brown and Silky Beige.
On the inside, the new Vios borrows the materials and designs from higher-end Toyota models. Owners can choose between an all-black or ivory/black interior. Unlike the preceding Vios models, the meter cluster has been moved to sit directly in front of the driver. Toyota claims that rear passenger space has been improved with slimmer front seats. This, in conjunction with the flat floor, will give the passengers generous knee and legroom space.
The boot holds up to 476 litres of cargo and can be expanded to 506 litres with the 60:40 foldable rear seats down. Toyota has lowered loading height and depth to make loading and unloading easier.
The new Vios is equipped with a 1.5L engine, producing 107 horses and 141 Nm of torque. The only transmission option is a four-speed automatic, which comes with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 12 seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 6.5 l/100km and a CO2 emission of 154g/km makes it eligible for a CEVS rebate of S$5,000.
There will be two trim grades for the new Vios, “E” and “G”. While the E grade comes with the usual standard features, while the G grade adds additional features such as projector headlights, split-folding rear seats, “acoustic glass” to dampen wind noise, leather steering wheel with audio controls, climate control, rear seat centre console, touchscreen DVD player and bigger brakes in the front with rear disc brakes.
The base E Grade will go for S$113,988 while the G Grade is at S$117,988. With the order books open, Borneo Motors is offering a 5-year/100,000km scheduled servicing package worth S$3,000. Apart from that, owners will enjoy the standard 5-Year unlimited mileage warranty, Toyota Shine Plus bodycare programme and free classic window solar films.
