Citroen's rainbow-hued Hypnos concept has us transfixed

Citroen Hypnos Hybrid SUV

If anyone can match Mazda in the mildly-mental-design stakes, it's Citroen.

And, perhaps as a riposte to the Kia-Ora (sorry, Kiyora) concept we saw earlier, the French manufacturer has shown off a couple of sketches of this, the Citroen Hypnos Hybrid SUV concept.

Don't be fooled by that seemingly production-ready exterior, with its X6-style coupe-SUV lines. No, take a look at the second picture, that rainbow-hued twist of DNA which, we're told, represents the Hypnos's interior.

Very pretty, yes, but we're guessing that access to the rear seats could prove a touch tricky.

Closer to reality is the Hypnos's drivetrain: a 200bhp-plus hybrid system which, we're told, will return over 50mpg.

Beyond that, it's all guesswork. Twisty, spectral guesswork. We reckon the Hypnos looks a more successful stab at the offroad-coupe thing than the BMW X6... but we'll find out a whole lot more when we see the concept in proper three-dimensional form at the Paris show.
