Ford Focus ST

In need of a fast Ford but can't wait until the Focus RS arrives in 2009? Fear not, because there's a faster Focus ST on the way.

Called the ST260, it features an uprated version of the 2.5-litre five-pot, which develops 222bhp in the standard ST but will put out - you guessed it - some 260bhp.

That extra power is thanks to a revised ECU and breathing system, and is expected to help the ST260 to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph. All through the front wheels. Eep.

The tuning kit will also be offered as a dealer-fit upgrade for existing ST owners at a cost of about £1,500.

Ford has also announced a similar pack for the Fiesta ST, which will boost the hot supermini's power by 37bhp to 185bhp. That should mean a 0-60 time under eight seconds - not bad for a £950 outlay.

But if that all sounds a bit tame, you'll have to hang on for the Focus RS. Only a year to go...
