There's an era in rallying known as Group B. Some call it ‘The Golden Years'. We simply like to call it the time when rallying was completely, utterly, awesomely mental. And if you weren't around in the 80s, you can relive it this Sunday.

At 9pm, BBC Four are showing ‘Madness on Wheels: Rallying's Craziest Years', a documentary from the producer of ‘Grand Prix: The Killer Years' that tracks the rise and rapid downfall of Group B.

This was the era when Lancia 037s catapulted themselves into seas of spectators filling the road, who only moved out the way when the front bumper was skimming their shins. It was very fast, very dangerous, and very cool.

The film tracks exactly how a spell of de-regulation threw up a unique and sadly unrepeatable time, and all your favourite cars are in it: Ford RS200s, Audi Sport Quattro S1s, Peugeot 205 T16s and lots of Lancias. As well as hugely-endowed mentalists including Ari Vatanen, Walter Rohrl and Stig Blomqvist.

We're quite excited. To whet your appetite, check out the trailer below...
