Lincoln MKS

Among all the environmentally friendly concepts and crossover vehicles at the Detroit show, it's good to see Lincoln flying the stars and stripes with a good ol' V8 luxo-saloon, the MKS.

Packing a 4.4-litre, 315bhp V8 engine and six-speed automatic gearbox, the MKS is unashamed of its luxury status.

In fact, Lincoln is happy to point out that the MKS is very close to what its next generation of flagship saloons will look like.

New for the MKS is permanent four-wheel drive with a pre-emptive traction control system that aims to avoid the wheels beginning to spin.

The interior has all of the requisite wood and leather, and there's also the Vista Roof. This is glass roof that runs the length of the cabin.

Other interior details include no less than 14 speakers for the hi-fi, and instruments that look like the face of a sports watch.

Lincoln won't say when the MKS will make it into showrooms, but it's thought US customers will get their hands on it late in 2006.
