New Top Gear magazine: out now

This month's issue's all about speed. Delicious, terrifying speed... And we didn't have to look too far to find it - Mercedes has just launched the SLS Black, replete with more of pretty much everything: power, aerodynamics, carbon. Naturally, driving this £300k monster was a job for Herr Stig.

We also bring you an exclusive, private audience with a rather special, extremely swift machine. After eleven years of development, the fastest Ferrari of all time is finally here - LaFerrari. Join us and company chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, to see it the son of Enzo really close the gap between road car and F1 racer.

If the £300k SLS Black or £1m LaFerrari are a bit below your budget, then how about the new £2.6m Lamborghini Veneno? Italian for poison (appropriately), the Veneno, is a nasty special-edition hypercar that bites hard. But if you were about to reach for the chequebook, don't bother - only three Venenos are being made... and they've already been sold. LaFerrari it is, then...

There's not been a good hot Peugeot for 15 years, so can the new 208 GTi be the beginning of a new day? We drive it to the twistiest place we know to find out, then take an original 205 GTI to see if it can live up to the legacy.

You don't necessarily need a big engine to have fun, though - speed is relative, and fun can still be had with less than a litre of engine capacity. We check out the new Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta to see if thrills and excitement can be delivered on the small stage.

In the news, we take a look at the new Rolls Wraith, a two-door behemoth with a lot of attitude. Its 6.6 litre, bi-turbo V12 will hit 62mph in 4.6 seconds. Scary stuff. We also see if the new 911 GT3 can live up to its legacy as an all-time legend. We also look at real-world concepts, VW's ultra-efficient technology and whether China's manufacturers will eventually take over the world.

In Planet TopGear, we celebrate the 50 fastest moments of all time, from the first steam engines to skydiving from outer space. Paul Horrell discusses the benefits of vertical integration in the car industry and Pat Devereux looks at the new NASCAR season, or was that the WWE...

We also take a Bentley GT Speed convertible to its quite literally hair-raising 200mph terminal velocity across a disused naval base. Then decide we need even more speed, so we take out the Hennessey Venom GT for a go at beating the Veyron SS's 265.7mph record. Will Bugatti's crown be taken?

Read all this and much more, only in the April issue of TopGear magazine - out now!

Also this month...

The Timeless Racer
We meet the finest Le Mans racer of the Eighties, designed by Daniel Simon. Well, perhaps in an alternative universe, actually... definitely in an alternative universe. Author of The Timeless Racer: Machines of a Time Traveling Speed Junkie, Daniel has quite an imagination and has worked on countless movies. His new book is unlike anything you'll have seen before, a beautifully rendered mashup of sci-fi, fantasy and motorsport.

Clarkson, Hammond and May
This month, Jeremy looks to the future with cars that can predict the weather, foresee accidents and even tell how you're feeling. Richard is touched by community spirit from drivers flashing others to warn of approaching speed cameras. And James discusses bringing a steam locomotive back to life.

Pulp Fiction
Made out of papier mâché and felt, the Peugeot Onyx is a crazy concept with more than a hint of reality. With more power-to-weight than the ballistic Ferrari F12 and bodywork made of copper, Peugeot have created something quite special. We take it for a spin.

Hammond Drives the Icons
TVR is dead, but its howling, roaring, speedy children survive. Long live the Sagaris! Richard takes this ‘proper GT' for a spin.

The Hottest Reviews
In addition, we still found the time to review some of the best new cars on the market, including the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, Renault Clio RS, Toyota RAV4, Mini Paceman JCW, Fiat 500L, Audi Q5, Kia Pro_Cee'd, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Toyota Auris Verso, Mercedes-Benz SLS e_drive, BMW 3-Series GT, Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet and Vauxhall Cascada.
