Seat will add to its Altea FR warm hatch range with a 197bhp petrol-engined version in August this year.

Borrowing the engine from the Golf GTi, the Altea will be the most powerful car in the Spanish firm's mid-sized MPV range.

There are no plans for a hotter Cupra model of the Altea, but Seat is set to build a Leon with more than 240bhp to take on the likes of the Vauxhall Astra VXR and Ford Focus ST.
