Skoda Fabia

Skoda has just released prices for its new Fabia, and they're as keen as a pot of especially fiery Dijon.

The second generation of Skoda's supermini is due to debut in the UK on May 17 with prices ranging from £7,990 for the base model to just over £13,000 for a top-spec edition.

Although that's a slight hike over the current generation, the Fabia still weighs in cheaper than the Honda Jazz or Nissan Micra.

The specs also reveal that the Fabia's petrol engines have been given a power boost, while kit levels are up across the range.

Trim levels have been simplified, too - gone are the Classic, Ambiente, Elegance and Sport tags. They're replaced by an undeniably logical 1, 2 and 3, with the top-level trim getting aircon, 15-inch alloys and halogen headlights.

Skoda also says that an estate Fabia will arrive next January, with a vRS turbodiesel to follow some time in 2008. Rumours abound that a 170bhp 1.4-litre TSI could make an appearance at some stage, but Skoda is staying firmly shtum...
