Aston Martin has been dangling the V12 Vantage in front of us for a while now, since the concept was first shown in December 2007. Now, they’ve stopped the teasing and got it ready for production.
Looks great, doesn’t it? All beefy and pumped up, with the 6-litre V12 almost bursting through its heavily louvered bonnet. At first glance, not much has changed from the original concept version. But look deeper and you’ll notice Aston’s engineers have been doing their thing to make sure it goes like an Aston should.
The grille, splitters, sills, bumpers and boot have all been altered, while the engine itself has been slightly repackaged – fitting the big V12 to the Vantage’s chassis was the biggest headache and wasn’t just a case of slotting it in. Thankfully, Aston’s blokes got their spanners out and made it happen, which we’re pretty pleased about.
The concept was a stripped-out, lightweight racer of a thing, but most of that has been lost to make the production version as easy to live with as a regular Vantage. Except this version has 510bhp, 420lb ft of torque and hits 62mph in 4.2 seconds…
Only 1000 will be made, and deliveries start later this year. We’ll have ours in blue, please.

Alright, I know I am gonna be absolutely ripped apart on this, but to be honest - I have had just about enough of the laziness residing with Aston's design department. Another Aston which looks exactly like every other Aston made since the DB7 was conceived. Beautiful, yes, no argument there, but why is every single car near on identical to all the others? Vanquish, Vantage, DB9, DBS, Rapide - all the same. They are lazier than the bods at Porsche pumping out the same 911 for the last 40 years - but at least that is just one model line, Aston is trying to transcend 3 or 4 with the same fundamental design. I love them all, absolutely gorgeous, just wish they could blow us away with something different now. Bar the upcoming Rapide - which is stunning, and a truly worthwhile development of the fundamental design - it's getting a bit (dare I say it!) boring?

I agree with <crash>. I love these stunning cars but let?s be honest, every Aston looks more or less the same. What's more there is almost no difference between them as far as the engine is concerned. They all have 6.0 V12 (apart from V8 Vantage of course): DB9 has now 470 bhp, DBS is slightly more powerful and hardcore with 510 and V12 Vantage has the same engine as DBS. Why do they make 3 cars which look almost the same and have the same engines and performance? DB9 is a superb GT and exclusive coupe and DBS is just a bit more superb GT and a bit more exclusive coupe. And the new V12 is going to be also a V12 GT. There is no distinction between models like it was a couple of years ago: Vanquish was a top of the range V12 supercar, DB9 was an exclusive GT and V8 Vantage was a ?baby Aston?.

I dont know if that 6.0 Litre V12 will work in the Vantage but still its an Aston Martin so it looks lovely and elagent but yet it looks mean at the same time.

Beautiful clean lines, possibly prettier than the DBS. I am tempted to agree with the other learned commentators and suggest its time for something new, however with this offering I can easily forgive AM one more indulgence. And judging by the state of the Lagonda, its probably a good thing they stick to what they know...
