One-77: inside’s out
The Aston Martin One-77 saga is drawing to its epic finale. At the glitzy Concorso d'Eleganza on the shores of Lake Como this weekend, the million-pound supercar was shown off with its production interior and running powertrain, effectively completing the big, expensive One-77 jigsaw.
It looks, in a word, stunning. We've seen the One-77's gilled, sculpted exterior before, but take a look at that hand-crafted interior - the woven seats, the silvery switchgear, the leather, the carbon fibre. Not bad, eh? We're assuming the grubby footwell isn't standard issue, but we're quite happy with the rest of it, ta.
The One-77 is set to go on sale next year, armed with a 7.0-litre V12 putting out around 700bhp. Aston says all 77 examples have already been sold - at a cost of around £1.2 million apiece.
It's already scooped its first piece of silverware: on its weekend outing, the One-77 received the Concorso d'Eleganza Design Award for Concept Cars and Prototypes. Good news, but surely with a production exterior, interior and powertrain it's pushing the definition of ‘concept'?
Talking of silverware, Aston has also announced that the V12 Vantage will race in the Nurburgring 24 Hour race this May. Lining up alongside the V8 Vantage that has competed since 2006, the giant-engined ‘baby Aston' - described as having only received ‘minor modifications' for the endurance race - will be driven by Aston CEO Dr Ulrich Bez.

i had the best idea in the world for this aston. as people know the concepts front lights had been blacked out from view and revealed they are not the prettiest things in the world. But this the idea. you know them lenses you can get frm specsavers tht go darker in the sun light and se through in the dark put them on the headlights. think when do you use the lights in the dark. when you go into a tunnel the headlight lenses would be clear. and then i found the great short fall in this plan. when you turn the lights on the lenses would go dark. ow well

Well this talking about having a Bugatti for just a few quit more... I'd still have the Aston it's just so bloody gorgeous! And this Veyron... well I dunno but It's not very good lookin is it. I think everybody just thinks it looks good 'cause it should at that price tag and at this kind of power and speed but actually it looks rubbish!!! This Aston is just marvelous! I agree with lambosareforeva in this one...

For people comparing the bugatti and the aston: I'll take a 30.000£ car, invest the rest of the 1.2mil£ into engine development and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a lot more horsepower than 1000~. But horsepower is not the point. You are not playing money for horsepower. The two cars are completely different and not comparable. People who buy them would buy both if they just COULD. For people that buy these cars, money is nothing.

some 77 people will kick them selth when the new db 9 come out in few year time for less than qurter of the prise i would wate but it look a dam nice car still.

Yoho and Taran clearly don't get the point. The answer to "Why get an Aston when you can get a Bugatti" is the same as "Why get an F430 when you can have a Murcielago?". The Aston is much prettier and much more nimble (so you won't be humiliated by Zondas and Koeniggseggs). Being godly fast in a straight line will avail you little more than a revoked driving licence. Anyone who has lived with a fast, cool car will understand this. Mate of mine had a heavily modified Mazda RX7 which ended up being impounded twice. Eventually he gave up, sold it and bought a 6-series BMW. Not as fast, not as attractive, but still overall a better car to live with.

C4_4life: 'AssHorne'? Consider your comment reported. whether or not it's prettier will always be up for debate. Personally i think the 6-series is shockingly bad. But faster? RX-7 slaughters it. It was tuned to around 500bhp and a whopping 650lb/ft of torque. 0-60 in 4 seconds dead, top speed about 180mph. What was the 6-series performance figures again? So i'm not on crack. I just know what i'm talking about, unlike some.

I don't think 007 will get the one-77, because it is just too exclusive. For Quantum of Solace they smashed 12 DBSs. There are only 77 one-77s and they're all bought.

Hmm Bugatti or Aston? If I could afford either why wouldn't I just have both!! Having said that if I had to pick I'd take this. What a gorgeous thing. The One-77 has the sexiest rear lights to date. That alone makes it almost worth the money.

With this car Aston have shown that not only are they capable of making sports cars, not only are they capable of making pretty cars, but they can make truly supreme cars. If I could buy one of these I would buy two - one to climb in while refilling the other. Ok, I exaggerate, but in short - it rocks.

DO SO WANT. Many people have looked at this car, even the silver model, and just said straight off "I'd pay a million quid for that!" Me too. Pleease tell me this will be in Gran Turismo or made as a big model so I can have a proper look!

Someone said it was chintzy; if it were a cheaper car, then yes, probably. But this is the real deal, like the £4000 indicator stalks on a Veyron or yacht decking on a RR Drophead. There's no imitation here, no fakery, no gimmickry. It's all genuine. That's why I like it and think they'll get away with it. On top of that, it has suspension like a DTM race car, a highly modified 7.3 V12, all sorts of stuff. It's a dream car.

The One-77 looks amazing but it dosn't look much like the DB9 or the DBS. That dosn't mean that I don't like, the Cars brilliant!

I don't think it looks particularly elegant - not a classic. A bit too much stick-on butch to be a truly well resolved design. It could have been something really special but instead i think Aston tried too hard to make something that both worked with the current range and looked like a car that would justify a $million dollar price tag. They've ended up with a footballer's dream car - an conventional Aston with some extra chintz and aerodynamic bits thrown in for good measure. Nice to see the Allegro's square steering wheel making a return though.

I hope that interior is concept-only. The doors seem to have no trim whatsoever and those seats remind me of the sole of a plimsoll shoe. Aston should get it sorted eventually though. They usually do.
