New Aston flies hy’
About once a month a design study emerges from deep in the cloisters of Coventry University, where young designers aim their pens at paper and come up with creations like this Aston Volare concept.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is an official Aston Martin project, but we suspect it will have bleeped on the Gaydon radar - or ‘Gaydar', as we like to think it's known.
OK, so it looks like a stretched and squished Vantage with a hint of One-77, but it's the science underneath that's more important. Designer James Trim thinks a hydrogen fuel cell would work best in this concept, powering an electric motor while still sounding like an Aston should.
Sounds a touch ambitious. But if the Gaydar is working well, perhaps Aston could take James under its wing and give the project a kick in the right direction.

It looks fantastic! Just as an Aston should, but could they at least put a false radiator and a V12 soundtrack in there please? You can't have an Aston without that traditional grille!

I think the mock Aston Martin grille is what makes this concept so great. It would allow Aston to keep its heritage look, While launching a new identity for the brand with alternative fuel technology. Great design James Trim.

We really are in mental concept mode at the mo aren't we? You can tell there's a motor show coming up. It looks good and the hope has to be that hydrogen fuel cell technology advances to this level of performance eventually but we're going to have a fair wait. More Tomorrow's World than tomorrow's car for the forseeable future. Give the dude a job though.

it`s not proportioned right .. the wheels are too big .. the headroom inside must be awful .. and the front reminds me more of the Vanquish ..

Everyone knows that smoking is harmfull, but there are still smokers... So i dont want some cars to run on hydrogen or be hybrid. Like Aston Martin

Looks great, except for the grille. As mentioned earlier, it needs the signature grille... now it looks like a cheap plastic insert. Also, no brakes? More attention to details like that would make it even better looking.

Finally Coventry Uni gets recognised! i am currentley studying Automotive design at cov uni and its brilliant (going into my second year). nice design and great concept cant wait till i get up to this level of design.

btw its made out of clay and its extremely difficult sculpt something that symmetrical and make it smooth enough to paint. believe me iv tried lol.

Apparently a lot of commenters don't realize that it is possible to make an electric engine be loud, it's just that doing so is undesirable. If Gaydon decides to make a concept out of this, one would hope that they change the name. It's just a shell, isn't it? No engine, no interior, no suspension, just a very good looking design in plastic and some salestalk. Looks verrrry good though. But really... Gaydar'll see right through that one.

Who needs sound? Apart from a necessary little bit to hear it coming up behind you. If your business is motion, sound is pure waste of energy. Just like heat: if you don't produce it, you don't have to lose it.

@ Mr Nice: the Volare indeed. That's a painful name from the past, and it explains the color as well. The Volare got Chrysler into serious trouble, for rust and lawsuits. It might be meant as a link between Aston and the Birdcage, but actually that name is the worst possible omen.

Just googled 'Volare.' Apparently it's 'to fly' in Italian. (Probably why the heading is 'New Aston flies hy?). Anyway my point is that I reckon the name suits an Aston more than a plymouth. After-all, you're not going to be 'flying' past anyone very quickly in one of those plymouth rust buckets are you!

It's a very good idea and the only possibility for it to work is if the auto manufacturers, the government and a few rich private companies band together in bringing the infrastructure to build those hydrogen fuel stations., because if not this car and others like these who have the same intent would only be a dream...

The front of the car has a very pedo-esque grin... Not good at all for starters!! Next how on the holy face on earth can they make the 'whoosh' fuel cell electric motor sound like the V8 thunder and burble of the Aston??! And to add, i hate fake noises!!

Yuck,yuck,yuck! This car is ugly from every angle. If you don't need a radiator grille, why not leave it out, rather than put one in and then brick it up? Surely if the car were more pointy at the front it would help fuel consumption as well?
