A5 Sportback is out
These are the first pictures of the Audi A5 Sportback - a four-door, four-seat hatchback that mixes bits of A4 and A5 together in a sleek new package. Need a coupe/saloon/estate-type thing? Bingo, this is your car.
So take a deep breath and try to get your head around this:
It's a bit lower, shorter and wider than an A4, so should be slightly more
assured through corners. It borrows the A5's aluminium front wings too, to help
quell any pesky understeer.
It might appear smaller than an A4 outside, but it's bigger than an A5 inside.
There might only be two rear seats, but passengers get a bit more shoulder- and legroom than in Audi's smaller coupe.
The boot has 480 litres of space - that's, er, exactly the same as an A4
saloon. At least you'll be able to access your gubbins easier through the large
hatchback.
It gets all the usual Audi engine and gearbox combos, and we've heard whispers that S and RS versions might be on the way. The Sportback goes on sale in September and prices start at £25,440 for the 2.0 TDI manual.

OK, sorry i dont get what's not to get about cars like this, its very simple, this car is not aimed at the 5GT nor CLS because it is too small to be a rival. So what you have to look at is the small sallon segment, you getting this?, this is effectively an A4 which is about the same size as a Mondeo or an Insignia or a Mazda6 or a Laguna, OK?, now what have all these cars got in common? They all come in saloon, estate and HATCHBACKS! The A5 Sport Back is simply aimed at people who want to move to the Audi brand but still want a big hatch back! It is extreemely simple, do you get it now?

What's the matter with giving it a normal name? It's an A4 hatch, so called it an A4 hatchback. Why do car companies always have to make up new stupid names for something that already exists?

I think the real question is would you go for this or the A4, considering they have the same boot space but the A5'll be easier to get things in.

I like this car, but there is the A4, and this is more of a coupé than a sportback. I Love this car, but the coupé version.

Why does Audi bother. They have just turned to building a car for cars sake. They dont care about their creations, only churning out as much faceless, dreary, worthless tat as possible. Is there anybody else out there who is becoming very much sick of Audi? Build some proper cars that we 'desire', instead of having to settle for while convincing ourselves its still 'cool' despite actually only buying because you are bland person with no imagination.

Love that car! Really do, i think it's the best looking not-too-show-off car out there! Looks brilliant! Interior looks amazing too! If i had the money, i'd get one...

Maybe next they can extend the wheelbase three inches, give it the front bumper from the Q7, raise the ride height by a foot and call it an Audi Luxury Utility-Drive QA45 Sport Activity Vehicle. I hope there willl be an RS version!

Looks real pretty, best of the bunch. It's the Volkswagen Passat CC's upmarket cousin which is also very well designed.

Gotta say, the A5 coupe is gert lush. I always wondered if they'd do a 5 door hatch version as I'd need the practicality. Woop, there it is. Now family men can travel around in style.

Long, long ago, the original Corolla was a 2-door and Toyota did a 2-door fastback version for no reason I could ever fathom. This A5 seems a bit the same - even a bit the same shape at the rear! I hope it was cheap for Audi to build, because there's a risk of it taking sales from A4 and A5 rather than bringing additional sales to the brand.

@Mikeado: the Audi CLT RS? ;) Could even be a real name: Coupe Langhecke Turbo RennSport. Sorry, I couldn't resist it. Looks a lot better than the BMW 5 thingy, doesn't it? If I had the money I might be tempted, just to tease Beemerdrivers. Yours may be bigger, but mine's goodlooking!

It looks good and I definitely think hatches are way more practical than saloons, I can't understand the snob value attached to having crap all access to the boot! Of course you can always get a hatch this size from VW Audi group it's called a Skoda Octavia and is bound to be thousands cheaper even if you get the VRS.
