Audi to build electric R8?
What are those sneaky scamps at Audi planning now? An electric car, if you believe the, er, buzz.
They've just launched a viral website called Electricity Untamed and it's preparing us for a shock. (We have lots of electric-based puns available for this story, but we'll stop there.)
Yep, the rumours are that the firm will, or might, unveil an electro car at this year's Frankfurt show.
The website features videos of electricity misbehaving itself and a statement which reads: 'On September 15 electricity, and all its force and power, will run free and completely untamed.' The 15th is the first day of the Frankfurt show and is generally when manufacturers unveil their little surprises.
So what will Audi's be? A battery-powered TT? An R8? If it is an electric R8, and if it's anything like the Tesla, it should go like Usain Bolt being chased down by a randy Vanessa Feltz.

How about none of the above? What sane person would like to see a mid-engined supercar transformed into some GeeWiz piece of crap? Leave the blender motors at home, Jerrys. I want my v10 and v12 and on some occasion even a v16. Less MPG, more POWERRR!

@ LeBonkers. I did that ones. Coffee had never tasted that good before. What kind of Audi would I like to see electric? If the A4 is their biggest seller, and has reasently been made a little bit lighter and bigger, perhaps that is a reasonable candidate for making it a good seller to the masses? Batteries take up space, so perhaps a long two-seated A8 with just batteries in the back seat would work - that should give you more than 100 mile range.

Would it not be likely to be an electrc version of the A1 or whatever the new little car is going to be? Or an electric version of that mid engined roadster that appeared with a VW badge not so long back perhaps?

It's not green peace it's Germany's political green party. and i think im right in saying that Audi is the last german auto maker to make a hybrid or electric car

Honestly, electric cars can be cool, with the right touches... imagine a Lamborghini Reventon in matt-black, approaching at a deadly pace, unnaturally silent... an unnerving out-of-the-world experience... sorry for any child-like affection for stealth fighters. Still, you get good mileage and the speed cameras can't detect ya...

i'm pretty shure it will be the R8 who's going to get a battery in the back... Because it will be just for show, they won't have an electric car for the masses. But you know what would be cool? if they would build a R8 with a nuclear powered electric engine... plenty of power and a mileage you can only dream about :p

well, since Volkwagen is aquiring Porsche, couldn't it be a porsche boxter or cayman with Audi stickers? to be honest, I think and Electric R8 would be stupid, that car's just to heavy to start with. maybe and A3, or TT?

Sorry, but this is all so very wrong. Making electricity, sending it down a wire, charging up batteries, hydrogen fuel cells? Electric cars have been around for as long as, well any other sort of car if you must know, and if it was going to work it would have done so ages ago. This is just another case of chasing rainbows.
