Bring the RS3
Here’s a happy rumour heading out of Audi HQ for you: those wild-haired boffins from Ingolstadt are considering dropping the new 340bhp engine from the TT RS into the A3 hatchback to create… the RS3. Oh yes.
(We've hastily bodged together a photo to illustrate, as you can see...)
Speaking with a Dutch website, Audi development boss Michael Dick said this week that they were ‘seriously considering’ fitting the 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine under the bonnet of the A3.
Just consider that for a second. A four-wheel drive mega hot hatch – putting out 40bhp more than the Ford Focus RS – to take the fight to the Imprezas and Evos with a sub-five second 0-60mph time and buckets of understated Q-car cool. Oh yes again.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Audi could detune the engine a little to keep the RS3 out the way of the TT RS. Or not build it at all (financial downturn blah blah ad infinitum). But they don’t want to do that, do they?
For now, let’s just bask in the happy thought of an RS3. Want one? Or will you take a Focus RS instead?

Given the cost of an S3, the RS3 seems likely to price itself out of the market segment if they put it together.

That spoiler is very thin and pointless. I do like the car though, is it better then a Evo or Impretza?

Turbomatic my answer is Audi, no question. Four wheel drive, more power, more badge (?) and the blue looks so much better

Funny you all comment the looks of the car; bumpers spoilers etc... This image was done in Photoshop during TG designers coffee break, and it shows! Do wonder what the TTRS (& eventually RS3) will be on the road - unlike other (sporty) Audi quattros, the TT is based on Golf platform, with Haldex part-time 4wd. A system that sends torque to rear wheels once the front ones go out of grip - understeering Porsche Cayman rival? Seriously?

Would you rather have a Ford or an Audi - that is the question?! .. even though the Ford is mad as a horse on ephedrine i think the RS3 has the edge, well, by being an Audi and so on.

Hot hatches aren't really my thing, I like coupes and saloon cars. Then again, a little competition in the marketplace can only bring good things. Or World War 3, but lets not get hung up on the details.

Even though I respect what Ford has achieved with Focus RS, to me it seems that the car is too long and a bit too heavy for a FWD setup, so I'd take the Audi. mko09, Golf platform, with Haldex part-time 4wd certainly doesn't understeer, because the chassis is so good. I know it, because I've driven the Golf R32 and it can even do some spectacular powerslides. Check the Fift Gear's review on Ytube. I can't wait to see how RS3 will stuck up against EVO, but I can tell it'll certainly be better than the Impreza. But look it up. Golf R32 is quite heavy, has a big and heavy V6 in the front, 50 bhp less than the Japanese competition, yet it's only 2.2 seconds slower than the EVO around TopGear's test track.
