Audi TT RS

RS out

More pictures of the Audi TT RS

Last week we showed you a couple of teaser pictures of the new Audi TT RS, and today we’ve got the whole damn thing. In convertible and coupe form.

The most striking feature is that monster new fixed rear wing which, with any luck, should keep you firmly stuck to the tarmac. We like the deeper front air intakes, too. And the big arches. And the chin splitter. And those oval pipes that point this out as an RS. In fact, we like it all.

Audi still isn’t confirming the technical details of the TT RS, so let’s summarise what we know so far: a 2.5-litre five-pot turbo petrol engine putting out around 340bhp and propelling the TT RS to 62mph in about 4.5 seconds through Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive. Blindingly fast, in other words.

We’ll find out all the rest in Geneva next week, but for now consider this: would it be really, really poor form to stick a couple of carbon fibre sideblades on your TT RS and pass it off as an Audi R8 that got shrunk in the wash?

Yup, looks exactly like I thought it would (Expect a sidebladed version in Fazinazion soon). I still can't see it as a Porsche or Nissan Z rival. It just looks like it's trying too hard with the huge scoops (could even be gimmicks) and spoiler.

It isn't trying too hard because 340bhp is VERY powerful and this car is tiny so it needs some downforce to keep it on the road or you'll be choking to death! how much will this be though?

dave560 - There's no word on pricing as yet, but when you consider that the 268bhp TT S lists at £35k, we reckon the TT RS will be well north of £40,000 when it goes on sale in the summer. That's a whole lot of cash, but let's be honest: it's going to absolutely muller a 370Z or BMW Z4 on absolutely any road. But - and we'd like to know your opinion here - can a TT ever be special enough to justify a 40 grand price tag?

Come on this is an Audi TT were talking about here. I got a haircut yesterday and i asked my hairdresser what car she had, sensible question, anyway she said an Audi TT in WHITE, you can't get any more hairdressery, really, as i said in the other one about the Audi it most likely won't be able to put its power onto the road, so if it can't do that then it will be HOPELESS.

Audi know what they are doing powerwise, they handle in some cases, over 570bhp, 340bhp should be a doddle

It's a TT trying to do an Evo/Impreza thing. Perhaps they'll succeed cos believe it or not, evo owners do grow up (perhaps a little faster than our wallets). I'd spend 40k on this rather than an FQ360 based interior, looks, and performance. But that's me. I doubt we'll see many hairdressers wanting to see 60mph in 4.5s, though.

So essentially it is at least two-thirds of the performance of an R8, for around half the price. Looks like a veritable bargain to me, especially with the "old-skool" Ur-Quattro five cylinder noise.

It allright, but i would have a Mitsubishi Evo 10 if it costs over £30,000 more seats ; more practicality ; Possibly better?

Does TTRS have a Haldex part-time 4wd (as other TT, S3, Golf) or true quattro (full time torsen) like other fast and fast-ish Audis? Case 1: lots of initial understeer; case 2: mild constant understeer... until the electronics tell the car to handle like a Porsche or 370z!
