Ford Focus estate

It's Friday afternoon, so it's time for another Top Gear Bargain of the Week, our uncharacteristically consumer-advicey slot where we dig out a cheap-as-Tesco-Value-chips bargain from the classified.

This week it's a Ford Focus estate for under eight grand. OK, it's a bit of a boring car, but if you need a solid, sensible, cheap-to-run workhorse at barely 40 per cent of its original price - and some £2,000 cheaper than list - this is all the car you need.

It's on an '07 plate, so that means there's another year of warranty left, and the engine is the 1.6 TDCi diesel, which'll run until the universe finally implodes.

Don't worry about the 40,000 miles on the clock - as the sheepskin coat-wearing dealers say, it's barely run in yet. The Focus is cheap to insure, tax and run, and our man on the inside reckons it would've cost nearly 18 grand on the forecourt less than two years ago. That's a monster saving.

Yep, we know it's a touch dull, but just think: put one of these on your driveway and you can start that pot of savings for the Murcielago Super Veloce...
