New Arnage out
This summer, after 114 years in production - OK, it's only 11 years, but it feels like forever - Bentley will kill off the Arnage to make way for an all-new giant ultra-luxury land yacht-thing, due to hit the road next year.
And it looks like this. Well, the bit at the front does, anyhow. This is the first official teaser shot of the Arnage replacement, set to be formally unveiled later this summer as an even-more-upmarket rival for the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
We don't know what it'll be called (Bentley is referring to it as ‘the New Grand Bentley', though the new model has been codenamed ‘Project Kimberley' - here's hoping that one doesn't stick), but we do know it'll be a significant departure from the current Arnage's design: that front end looks far more sculpted, with a Conti-style clamshell replacing the Arnage's flat bonnet.
The Arnage replacement is expected to sit on a heavily modified version of Audi's modular space frame chassis - an iteration of which already underpins the A8 - meaning it'll be far lighter than the current car: good news for handling and economy.
As for power, well, all we know is that Bentley is highly likely to ditch the 6.7-litre V8 from the current Arnage in favour of... er, something else.
It'd make sense to use something from the VW/Audi stable - rumours that it'll adopt the Bugatti Veyron's 8.0-litre, 987bhp W16 engine refuse to go away, though we're sceptical - but the Arnage replacement looks unlikely to be diesel- or hybrid-powered: Bentley doesn't believe the demand for either exists yet, particularly in the US.
So we're looking at something big and petrol-ish. V8 seems right to us, but how about a V10 made by bolting a pair of Audi TT-RS engines together, Bentley? Or how about three Scirocco R engines in a row for a nice 6.0-litre V12? Or... actually, we can't top that Veyron suggestion, actually. What engine would you like to see under there?

Another great car gets spoiled (the XJ Jag being the first). What's with the sculpted lines here. Bentleys are supposed to be huge, square-ish and yet graceful. The Arnage is the only car that suites heads of state properly. Now we get more mainstream bullshit, because "the market demands"...

i always thought the arnage was a bit well for want of a better word obese. this one looks a lot sleeker. definitely the w16 veyron engine. it may not be very environmentally friendly but who honestly gives one with the arnage?

Ohh yes next year is definitely gonna be a good year for new cars, we got the Rolls Royce Ghost coming out earlier part of the year, we've got a replacement for the Arnage, an all new McLaren, a recreation of the classic Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and most probably new cars or improved versions of current cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini, I've even heard talk of a Zonda replacement too. Sure gonna be exciting! This Arnage though is certainly already sounding good and if it gets that 8-litre W16 from the Veyron then even though this car will most certainly be heavy it will move like nothing else. Looking forward to this.

As im from Crewe and I see the factory quite often so I have seen this car in the showroom and I think it is stunning.

A naturally aspirated version of the W16 would be sensible yet awesome in a car like this. No luxo-barge needs 1001PS. I hope it looks similar to the Arnage, though. That was good looking despite being enormous and a little square.

I don't want the Bentley to have the Bugatti's engine... then the Veryon wouldn't be special anymore. Imagine if they were people and met, two massive blokes with big youknowwhats and they'd sooo size each other up, then bash each other up. Then the Bugatti would go cruising away and the bentley would have a cup of tea. (Random much?)

The new Bentley needs: A Blower, OHC, and 4 valves per cyl. from the od days. I'd love to see an 8 litre V-10. The Teutonic W config is insulting the badge. It should be a rolling chassis with mounting points, that must be coach built with an alluminum body to factory engineering specs; and preferably an option to have the seats sewn from the skins of colonized people. The only thing german about it should be the Faustian bargain of limiting your interior color options. That's a Bentley. As it should be.

Surely bolting two TT-RS 5 pots together gives you the engine in the RS6? That's still got to be a contender, though?

unlike some people i can wait for this. i liked the brooklands the most out of all the bentleys. simply because it looked amazing. and i also love the jag xj, whats this thing about they are oldmens cars??? im 16 and i love them both compared the conti GT and the jag xf. but if u got 4 scirroco R engines u would end up with an 8.o w16 with 4 turbos. remind you of anithing

I like it. And yes a Veyron motored Arnage would be AWESOME but common it's murdering the Bentley spirit. Bentley's are supposed to make us feel like we're owners of the world, or something like that. No to be the quickest guy on the road. That's what Lambo's and Bugatti's exist. And to get chick's.

I really hope they don't give it the Veyron engine, there is such thing as too much power, and that's it. Give it around 600bhp and that'll be plenty enough
