BMW 1 Series M Coupe

Remember the E30 BMW M3? That raucous, race-derived road car which makes every motoring ‘enthusiast' come over all adenoidal?

Well, that was the inspiration behind the BMW 1-Series M Coupe. For reasons largely involving BMW's only supercar, the little coup' isn't called ‘M1', but all the signs are pointing to it being a proper M car.

We've given you all the details, we've shown you all the pictures, and now it's time to see it move.

Now, it does appear that somebody fell asleep behind the camera for the first half, because nothing happens. But fast forward to about 5m 27s and things start to get noisy.

E30 is still cooler, probably more fun too.

Looks dramatic, seems well composed round corners and the sound isn't that bad. Add Eissenham exhaust, lower the suspension a bit and we'll start talking records again like the E30. E30 still got my respect and admiration but this baby Bimmer is no push-over. It has fire in that belly and its ready to claim its place in the motoring world

Wow that was a boring video. I think it's going to be a good car, and I think it's got a nice sound to it. But, I don't think it's going to be good enough on its own to justify what it will probably cost. I don't see this as much of a daily driver due to its small size, for me at least. So, if I were to buy it to gut it and turn it into a track car, I'd much rather go with a E46 M3 CSL and have just as good of a car for less money. If I were to buy it for a fun small weekend car, I'd much rather have a Lotus. I don't see me wanting to buy this car until the price comes way down and I can get an older one for cheap to gut it into a track day only car.

That might actually be the nicest car that nobody ever wanted. The price puts it in territory that much better cars can be had that are purpose built. The styling fixes some of the ugly, but really doesn't attract anyone but Johnny Fanboy. Tell me again the point of this car? Is BMW just building M cars for the sake of selling the badge? I can't imagine getting that car when there's so many more unique and engaging others out there. Missed the Deutsche Mark again there boys.
