Good news! BMW has confirmed its (deep breath) Vision EfficientDynamics concept will go into production.
The sandal-wearing supercar was met with an 'overwhelming' response at its Frankfurt motor show debut last year, prompting BMW execs to simultaneously shout out 'ching ching'.

The SillyLongName features a three-cylinder turbo'd diesel engine and hybrid motor on the front axle, and a full hybrid engine on the rear axle, making it all-wheel drive. Max power stands at 328bhp, and it will hit 62mph in 4.8 seconds while returning 75.1mpg. Just 99g/km of the nasty stuff will peep out of its pipes, which, considering that performance, is quite an achievement.
On electric energy alone, the green-machine has a range of 31 miles, but the addition of a small diesel engine gives a boost to 435 miles. No word on price or release date, but BMW did also announce production of an electric city car, called the Megacity Vehicle, due to go on sale in 2013.
A fine hunk of news, you'll agree. Click through the gallery for a delectable selection of pictures and then post your thoughts below. Excited?

Sounds like a gruesome combination: electricity and Diesel in a "supercar". To me this sounds to me like one of those put-it-all-in-there concepts, one that eventually won't come out as announced. At least it's got a nicely illuminated grill which will attract 16 y/os on motorshows.

They do realize Porsche has the 918 Spyder approved for production too right? It gets up to 94 mpg and 70g/km... and has a racing bred V8 engine along with electric motors for a combined 718 hp. 0-60 in 3.2, faster around the Nürburgring than the Carrera GT. I don't dislike the beamer, but the figures are no where close to the Porsche
