Bugatti’s super touring car
Remember that Mercedes SLS ‘Black' we showed you the other week? It was a rendering by Dutch designer-chap Sytse Dijkstra that turned Merc's gullwinged supercar into a LM-style race car.
Well, we liked it. So much that we decided to step it up a notch. What, we wondered, is the most ridiculous fantasy racer we could imagine? A Bugatti Galibier. On 23s and ready for the grid at Le Mans.
Daft, isn't it? Note the open engine covers with Veyron powerplant nestled beneath and ridiculous rear spoiler.
Anyway, we thought we might do some more of these, so get signed up on our commenting thing below and give us your ideas. We'll pick the best five and get them illustrated.
But remember, don't take it too seriously. The more absurd the better, please...

Right then, the weirdes one would be a nice Dacia Sandero with the mother of all engines (i.e. the on in the mad Golf, VW made for the weird fans), and a nice big rear spoiler. How about it? P.S. How much plugging will the boys do in this series for the Sandero? :D

okay, so it has to be the smallest, worst car with the biggest, fastest engine. so im thinking a G-Wiz with a veyron engine....but what i would really like is an ariel atom with a veyron engine! but then it would be a bit heavy. maybe a super-light F1 engine in an atom, that really would go like something very dirty of a stick....espically if it was a 3L one from early this decade...900hp in an atom!

No think typically British, and what more so than a Ford Transit? Short wheelbase, fitted with TWO 2.3 DOHC engines melded into one (like a Veyron), in the back. Paint it white (so nobody would notice it) and when it wasn't racing you could earn a few bob ripping out bathrooms.

How about that nasty little Mitsuoka Viewt from this mornings car news in Baja spec with full on metre-long suspension travel and alcohol fuelled V8? The Atom idea is a nice one but Arial themselvs are doing some sort of mentalist small V8 with 500bhp as a limited run thing and I suspect that will out accelerate anything short of a surface to air missile. 900bhp would probably open a wormhole in space time. Or something. As for the transit van thing - bindun by ford themselves although it went from a mental V8 down to a tuned turbo diesel at last muster. And Renault did the F1 powered Espace. And I've also seen that insane 500bhp Splitty monstering Porkers, GTR's, Fezzas etc - must take balls of steel to drive! Oh and racing defender...I point you in the direction of the Bowler Wildcat as a starting point. Lose some of the weight, up the power, drop the suspension a bit et voila!

Definitely need a maybach 62 S thrown into the mix somewhere either as a D1 drifter, wrc, paris dakar, etc. Also, how about a smart car drag racer with one of those really long bodies and tiny wheels at the front? Lastly, I could see an LMP1 spec bendy bus but with the top half cut off to be like Richard's limo but have the top covered to look like a veritas. That's all I've got for now. I will keep thinking. This is a great idea, you should do something fun and ridiculous each month maybe to put in the magazine.

@Zodiac: Late one night on a series of welsh backroads I got passed by a black Ford Transit. Me being in an RX-7 FC and not standing for being overtaken by a bloody van, I chased after it. After half a mile I realised this was a van taking welsh backroad corners at over 90mph, and me in my lightweight sporty RX-7 was having a hard time keeping up! So worked-over Transits aren't new or original. :)

Damn, I'm too late. Was also thinking of a rally Maybach. F1 vans? Renault Espace F1. They took a F1 car, and made it look like an Espace. Ford did similar things to some Transits, they called them Supervan. And some Germans have turned some of the VW busses into Porsche GT3 beating race monsters. And another tuner has turned a Corsa A into a road legal twin engined 700 bhp monster. That being said... Tata Nano... as a dragster. Or a Prius... powered by a Merlin.

Hows about a Lamborghini LM002R a LM002 with a full Lemans GT1 Body kit ( I notice in the render above you pinched the Aston Martin DBR9 rear wing lol) including a Murcielago RGT rear wing Skirts, Spliter, Diffuser and deffinatly the monstrous twin pipe exhausts!, a DBR9 bonnet, Maserati MC12 roof scoop with a Corvette C6.R engine and to cap it all off it would ahve to be painted in the Gulf livery!.

An SUV is always a good bet for a daft sports vehicle. Or how about a new Transit Supervan with a 700bhp Roush Mustang engine or something? Or, what would a 911 Rally look like? They used to do it in the '60s & '70s, but what about a 997 Turbo WRC? Or take something really unassuming like a Kia Cee'd or Picanto, or a Proton Septic Nappy, and make a WTCC or Rallycross car out of it! Or wedge the 7.3 V12 from a Zonda F into an old MR2. Or make a cross between a Mazda Furai and a Mazda RX-7! That would look awesome! Just invent Formula Daft by using the Espace F1 principle of taking an MPV - or use a soft-roader like an Antara, Kuga or CR-V, and putting an F1 engine in the middle and adding spoilers. The vehicle that would be completely absurd, but do-able, is a F20C-powered 1990 Acura Integra LS, widened and fitted with an Xtrac 404 sequential tranny and a Garrett Turbo system capable of about 20 psi. The car would be used in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) GT-1 class or the Speed World Challenge. The other option is an AWD version aided by a Turbo K24A1 (Honda CR-V) that could be used in rallycross.

Ok, so its not a Le Mans racer, but there is a part of me that wants to see a Lamborghini Reventon Roadster set up to take on the Dakar Rally. Am I crazy?
