Loeb-otomy
You may have heard of a gentleman called Sebastien Loeb. He's quite good at the rally-thing. He drives for a team called Citroen.
So, to honour the most successful driver in the history of the WRC (50 wins, five championships and counting), Citroen has released a special, superhot edition of its C4 hatch. It's called the C4 By Loeb. To capitalise on all the sportiness, see. Like Subaru did with Richard Burns and the RB5. And the RB320.
So what mad power and excitement does this C4 By Loeb pack? Pace to rival the Focus RS? A bodykit to rival the, er, Focus RS?
No. A tacky signature on the doors, a sticker on the tailgate, new wing mirrors and a new spoiler, that's what. No more power, no limited slip diff, no beefed-up turbo engine promising torque steer galore. Same modest petrol and diesel engines as you get in the standard C4.
That said, you do get some red stitching on the inside. Ooh, and red surrounds on your floor mats.
Come on, Citroen. You can do better than this. You've got arguably the greatest driver in the world on your books. You've got design flair in spades. Stick ‘em together and give us a proper hot hatch. Not this. Stop using Seb's name in vain.

They should bring back the homologation rule so that Citroen have to give us a 2 litre turbo powered hot hatch. Incidentally why don't Volkswagen do rallying? They have the GTi engine which is 2 litre turbo and a 4 wheel drive system so it would require minimal development and inject a bit of cool into the marque while sticking it to two of their main rivals Ford and Citroen.

Would've been nice to see a proper new hot hatch from Citroen, but I guess in this recession people may just be looking for sporty looks with frugal engines. I think it looks good, but it would be better with a six-speed 'box for the diesel. It's about time Citroen launched some cutting-edge new engines! And they should also hurry up and get Stop/Start into the rest of the range! Won't be long before the New C4 arrives, either.

BORING, what they've done is put a good name on something bad, they did it on Top Gear remember, they put a BMW badge on a plate of sick, that's what this is!

Stig's Irish Cousin [do I know you? F3 at Mondello a couple of years ago?] I think you're exactly on the right lines with the Homologation rule. We could have a hot 4wd 2 litre Focus and C4 that way, and if all things go a very hot [and presumably cheaper] Skoda and Fiat to look forward to as well Joy!

JouetsCitroen, Citroen already has acces to cutting-edge engine. HDIs' are the best diesel engines on market hands down. And they've just codevelopped the 1.4Vti, 1.6Vti and 1.6 THP petrol engines with BMW that provide probably the greatest fuel economy/power ratio on the market, are very very quiet(you don't expensive Lexus/Merc anymore). Can you think of any other car this size that goes 0-60 in 10 seconds dead with 1.6 naturally aspirated?

If im honest the car did look good until they made a loeb edition of it with those stupid vinyls on the inside and the what is the point of making a loeb edition if it isnt quicker and better to drive than the normal one its basically like putting spoiler and decals to a lada riva. either way it is still rubbish. Please quit making these rubbish loeb editions and make the something like the ford focus RS or the Renault Megane RS they have the driver to get it set up right and you have the skills to make it amazing but please fire the person who decided those vinyls were a good idea

Everybody shut up. You've no idea how C4 is fun to drive even with 122 bhp engine. The interior looks like it came from Star Trek.

Surely this is nothing but a cynical marketing effort? Frankly slightly disappointing that Citroen would go ahead with it, and given the general theme of the above comments it's clear that they're generating little more than bad publiciity... ____________________ www.iamnotthestig.com

To all those defending the C4: We're not saying the C4 is a bad car. It's probably quite good (though i'll withhold judgment until I actually drive one). What we ARE saying is that shamelessly plastering the car with Loeb's name (literally) with minimal changes to the car itself, and with a jacked-up price tag is an absolute travesty. It'd be like taking a standard Ford Focus, giving it some new wing mirrors, some rally-type stickers, and calling it the 'Focus RS'. Escorts and Sierra Cosworths would be turning in their grave!

It is not a hot hatch and it doesn't even look better than an ordinary C4. Because of the new facelift all Citroens now have that oversized ford-aping black plastic trapeze which looks like crap. And the C4 isn't going to do any better with nothing but duller looks and higher price, in fact it used to be a good car before the update.

I have a C4,its a 1.6 petrol VTR. Not That hot performance wise, or economically (It is an 06 model, which didn't have the BMW engines), but EVERY time I look at it, I smile. It is a pretty car that I personally like, and if not for a few problems (with ME not it) I'd have another one in a heart beat! So I am a fan of the C4. However, I do believe that it should have been at least lightly sprinkled with Rally magic, rather than a few decals, white alloys and a bit of internal stitching. And I am afraid I have to agree with "heinz" above, the new front end makes it look like crap. It had a nice, pretty/aggressive look to it, now it looks like it really has had a lobotomy.

This is what you expect from the French. The 206 was a very good rally car too (some epic crashes on youtube of it at least) and yet Peugeot made nothing for the road that was anything like the rally version. GTi 180 was probably the closest to it.
