Caparo gets hotter
Remember the
Caparo T1, the race-car-for-the-road that set the world alight last
year? Well, there’s an even hotter version about to launch called Race
Extreme.
Those mad boffins down at Caparo obviously decided that 575bhp from the
standard T1’s 3.5-litre V8 just wasn’t toasty enough, so have boosted
power up to a scorching 625bhp. That’s good for a 0-60mph time of 2.8
seconds, while the Race Extreme will hit 100mph in 5.8 seconds and top
out at a properly roasting 208mph.
The Race Extreme also gets a fully adjustable suspension system, along
with a new tunable ECU, allowing owners to tweak the settings of the
engine and sequential gearbox to their hearts’ content.
Even better, if you want to stay cool in your T1 – out of the harmful
burning rays of the sun, of course – Caparo has just the answer: a
plexiglass canopy and air conditioning system, yours for a cool
£25,560. More info at this, er, hotlink.

I'd be happy to be interest in it if they could fix their reliability problems first.

Sorry is that £25,560 for plexiglass canopy and air conditioning system, or for the car, and people say the optional extra's on german cars are overpriced!

"Cheap, better looking version of the caterham(maybe)." Sorry? Cheap? You're paying £25 000 for the aircon and plexiglass canopy not the car! You're paying about £225 000 more for that!

Johnney the reliability was with the prototype. Production spec has adjustable traction control and a raising nose. All prototypes have that sort of problems Caparo's mistake is that they released the press upon it before it's finished. And did i mention i TOTALLY LOVE THE CAPARO!!!! in any spec but most in the race extreme version!!!!!

I didn't even think it was possible to get a hard-core Caparo. Neither can I think of any reason why 1,160 bhp/tonne is too little a figure. But the standard T1 (laughable terminology there) did 0-60 in 2.5 and 0-100 in 5. Trouble putting the power down?

its an odd one this, i love the concept of a track/road hybrid, but i cant see this car being a success. which is a shame really because its a fantastic looking thing, it wud really be a moment seein one on the high street or tearin up a motorway. hopefully it'll all come good for caparo, i'd love to see wat they could come up with if next if it does. is there gonna be another episode with the T1 i wonder? caparo said that the car wud be eligible for the lap board now they have the speedbump conquering hydraulic lift!!!

The T1 is one of those cars that I really want to succeed sinply for the lunacy of the thing, and the huge poke in the eye for the anti-car lobby, but stories like this worry me. From what I remember the T1 has suffered a string of problems since it left the drawing board, and for a company to be releasing new higher powered variations and mind-numbingly expensive options without showing us that the damn thing works seems a bit premature. It seems to be heading towards the 'minted trackday maniacs' market, and every extra quid they pour into the hi-po variants will probably lessen the chance of ever seeing one on the road; let's face it - anyone able to spend this much on a car to start with isn't going to settle for the 'lesser' version, are they?
