Following years of concepts and late concepts and late late concepts and frankly quite tardy concepts, GM has finally revealed the production Chevrolet Camaro to the world.
Due to go into production in the US next February, the Camaro is being touted as 'a fun, efficient sports car for the 21st century'.
Efficient? Well, you've got the choice of a 300bhp 3.6-litre V6, or GM's 6.2-litre V8 in two states of tune - an oh-so-frugal 400bhp or oh-really-not-very-frugal 422hp. The top-rated engine will even come with a manual transmission. For more efficiency, presumably.
It's hardly set to be a flyweight, either. The lightest Camaro will tip the scales at 1700kg - considerably heavier than its auld rival, the Ford Mustang, but slightly lighter than the Dodge Challenger.
Even so, the top-spec Camaro SS recently lapped the Nurburgring in eight minutes 20 seconds - quicker than the Porsche Cayman S and BMW M3. That's thanks at least in part to fully independent suspension, plus traction control with a 'Sport' mode. Which sport in particular isn't specified.
But hell, it looks great. As Hammond said, if drives even passably, it's a tempting proposition. Especially since the Camaro has been confirmed to come to the UK in right-hand drive - perhaps as early as next summer.
Yee-haw. Etc.
