Citroen GT to tackle Goodwood
Exciting news. Really, truly, exciting news.
The Citroen GT - yes, we know it's supposed to be the GTbyCitroen but... just... no - will run the Goodwood hillclimb at the Festival of Speed in July.
On July 3-5, to be precise, the astonishing supercar - created in conjunction with Polyphony, the team behind Gran Turismo 5 (watch the trailer) - will tackle Goodwood's 1.16-mile hill.
This should be most excellent. When we first saw the GT back in Paris, our first thought (actually, our second thought, the first one being, 'Bloody hell!') was: 'Build it and get it on the track.'
And now they are. Yes, you can drive it on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, but it's not quite the same as seeing it whip up the Goodwood hill, skimming the haybales and walls on the way, is it?
Rumours still persist that Citroen is planning to put the GT into very limited production - as few as 15 cars and as much as a million Euros apiece, we're told.
There's a bit of a mystery here, though, Top Gear sleuths: Citroen says the GT has already completed parade laps at the Nurburgring and Le Mans 24 Hour races... but Top Gear was at both of those races and saw neither hide nor hair of the big white supercar.
And there's a distinct lack of photos/videos/anything of it on track. Did anyone spot it at Le Mans or the 'Ring?

That's the only cool Citroën I know, and as such, should be put into production. Kind of reminds me of the Ford GT - both are supercars made by a company that normally produces normal everyday cars.

Well that is peculiar. If it really did appear at those 24h races, wouldn't it have made headlines? Hmmm. On important thing to do if it does appear at Goodwood is: Listen to it. Because the rumors of a production version mentioned a 500bhp V8, but in the game it's a 780bhp hydrogen car (with an astonishing 1800 lb ft), so I wonder which it is...

It's a beautiful machine, no doubt. I just hope that it puts in a better show at Goodwood than the last gorgeous bonkers concept, the Maserati Birdcage, did. Assuming it is going to make production, has supercar aspirations and is made of fairly exotic materials, I would expect 600 bhp in order to be competitive in it's peer group. Can't wait.

maybe they are platform sharing with a racing car from a different company??? then it technically would have been at le mans. what engine would go into it though because the one on the games is either electric or hydrogen cell one?

i was at at the nürburgring 24 hour race , and it did do a parade lap a couple of days before the actual race started...

i bought this on gt5p. bit weird as its only got one gear but it is insanley fast on the game because you get loads of torque at 0 rpm. however cornering wise... well theres alot of understeer and when you get it going sideways the weight of the body whips back violently when you set it straight kind of like the tesla.

Citroen has surely got their mojo in designing cool cars and suv's again, which is why I think Renault has hired ex-Mazda Laurens van den Acker to replace Patrick le Qeument to up the ante at Renault design studios...

However cool it looks, would you really like to drive a 6- or 700 hp supercar made by Citroën? Hm... They've built some great rallycars, but no WTCC, LMS or F1. Not a great resumé I think. Maybe Peugeot will lend a hand. But it's very cool to look at, true.
