If you saw the telly show tonight (Sunday, November 22) you’ll know about Clarkson’s plea to the nation for votes on the car manufacturer that has made the most great cars over the years.
Well, here’s the place to stick your contenders. Remember, he’s not looking for the best car manufacturer ever, but the company that’s produced more decent vehicles than any other since the wheel was invented.

Nissan would be my first choice because i love the fact they make reliable cars for a good price that still have everything you want. Other car companies seam to either charge to much, take all the good stuff out, or cocks drive them (audi). Also the company has put out some of the best affordable sports cars, yes the 300zx is a porn stars car but still amazing cars. oh and i do own a 350z so i know first hand, reliable even when driven like a sports car, great performance, and it is a beautiful car.

its a great debate, who has made more better cars than any one, alfa has some of the most interesting cars ever built but they also made some god awful cars. Also what about the numbers? Toyota and VW have the highest numbers of sales, compare that to ferrari who have had more good cars to bad. If your looking for the most sound automaker in history my vote goes to BMW they have only just started to get to gawdy unlike the fords of the 80's that disgraced american muscle and the ludicrous designs of lambo. BMW has made some of the best looking cars, and most reliable in recent history. I wont even exclude the M1 as insane as that car was it was still amazing to look at and just a little ruff around the edges. the 2002 was simple, and beautiful. You can not go 20 yards with out seeing a 3 series. the long line up of BMW's wins my thoughts over unless top gear can prove my thoughts wrong.

Well, lets say I would pick BMW. I can't remember a bad car they have. In addition they always make them better year after year. I can't say the always look good but inside it's amazing to drive with the luxury. Another one is Toyota and Lexus maybe not as good as the BMW but every car they make is very solid and over the years they proof to everyone they stand on top. With wide choices of cars and everyone is solid. And you can't stand on top if you are not great

VW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. They just keep going, have a lot of history of great, famous and remebered cars. And today these car manufactures are the model to beat in each segment.

Volvo made the greatest cars ever. The P1800, the 850 T5R, the, in my opinion, great looking 240 and 740 estates. Reliable and with turbocharged engines quick as well. The other Company I think made great cars is Ford, think for example of the GT40, the new GT, the Capri, the Escort, the Focus RS, the Mustang and so on. The even make a 3.2 liter 5 cilinder Transit nowadays.

!! Where's my comment I posted yesterday? I hoped to find some reactions, but all I read is the same non-argumented list of car types. A great car should be bought when you're 18 and be sold when you're 88 because they took you're driver license to make the road safe again. The only maintenance you had to do in 70 years is to refill fuel and change tyres and at selling time a great car is still capable for its second 600.000 km of driving. Untill then all cars are technical bloopers and we all should start driving tractors. They last!

People ! I can easily put an end to this debate, though with a cheat: VW group :P Bugatti, Bently, Lamborgini, Porche, Audi, VW, Seat, Lancia, Skoda, Scania...did I miss any? Take the great cars out of this lot and you have a biggest 'great car list' anyone could ever conceive. (just saying though, it's a cheat:))

Hello from Romania, thanks for the great show that you made here. I think that almost all manufacturers made great cars. For example Fiat made the 500 hundred which was sold in 4 mil units, VW invented a proper hot hatch witch was great, Alfa made some nice coupes in the 70's, Jag made the XK, Aston made glamorous cars, Ferrari in my opinion only the F40 was great, Lambo made dreamcars. and so on. So I think a great manufacturer still is VW AG because at the time they are number one in sales this year and they have good brands under they arm.

Good call on Toyota. Many models may be bland but Toyota (and pretty much the Japanese) proved to us that cars don't have to break down regularly. Also,they DO make exciting cars from time to time and when they make a great car, it is GREAT (2000GT anyone?). BMW's sounds good too. The only car I don't like is the 1 series. Motoring journalists didn't really like the Z3 too but other than that, good call on BMW. Ford makes the best bang for buck performance cars. This is a great debate

LANCIA!!! the creaters of the modern car as we know it, 1st to produce monocoque, 1st to produce fully independent suspension on 4 wheels, 1st to produce a propper pillerless car (in 1934), 1st car designed in a wind tunnel (1937) blah blah blah blah blah, basically if lancia hadn't developed the lambda in the 1920's where would the modern car be now?? look at their rally and race history with cars such as the d50 , b20,fulvia, stratos, 037, delta s4, integrale, no other manufacturer has won 7 world rally championships consecutive,lancia can count for a ground breaking car almost every decade of existance, something different

I think it is has to be the ford, just for the reason they have made my favourite car ever, ford focus ST in orange which makes it look amazing and unlike many car manufactures its not trying to be over the top, And another reason I think it is ford is the ford GT40 one of the best racing cars ever!

It's either going to be Nissan or Honda. Nissan: GT-R, Skyline (R34, R33, & R32), Altima, Maxima, 1990's Sentra Spec V, Sylvia/240SX, 370Z, 350Z, 1970's Datsun Z's Honda: S2000, Accord, NSX, Integra, Prelude, Civic It would be a close race. The GT-R has high-performance for a lower price than any other competitor, without compromize, yet the S2000 is an absolute-blast to own and an awesome all-rounder. As a long-time Top Gear fan, I leave it to you guys to do the nitty-gritty homework, hopefully some of it will be shown on the show. I look foward to the results of your research!

I think the marque which has made the most consistently brilliant cars would have to be Land Rover, despite their fairly narrow focus they have never not been the market leader, even if they have been hijacked for use as Chelsea tractors recently.
