SLS: back in Black?
Now you've had a good long look at the Merc SLS - and if you haven't, may we humbly recommend the new issue of Top Gear magazine, which features an exclusive shoot with the gullwinged supercar - surely your thoughts are now turning to the Really Hot Version. The Black Series.
Having already created harder, faster, nastier versions of the SLK, CLK and the SL, the evil Dr Frankenblack will soon turn his scalpel to the SLS. The gullwinged Black Series is expected to arrive some time in 2011, and here's what it might look like in ready-to-race form.
This isn't, we should stress, an official Mercedes image, but instead a rendering from most excellent photographer-designer-chap and Friend of Top Gear, Sytse Dijkstra.
Taking the SLS's block-nosed silhouette and adding a fat bodykit, side-exit exhausts and proper racing bits including a roll cage, massive rear wing and, er, lots of stickers, we reckon it looks mighty fine. What do you think?
And, just as importantly, what will it be powered by? The stock SLS, remember, sees Merc's 6.2-litre V8 putting out 571bhp, while the CLK Black Series gets the same engine in 530bhp form, which plainly won't do.
The SL Black Series gets a far more appropriate 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 putting out around 670bhp, which still sounds just a little bit modest for the ultimate AMG.

Defo not liking the headlights. Just remove the racing decals and you have the SLS Black. Also, will you people f*** off with that 'first comment' crap. We can see you got the first comment, no need to adverstise it. We can all read thanks.

This SLS Black won't look anything like this. It will have flared wheel arches, carbon fiber plates under the bumpers, and a small raised spoiler that raises more at speed. The exhaust pipes will be carbon fiber, but they will be on the back bumper where the normal car's are. It will look like a super aggressive version of the SLS, not some Need for Speed abomination

i think it´s a really beautiful car i´d like one. i´d like to know why mercedes audi and bmw design it ´s so good and why porche is always the same.

easy, the zonda f engine that amg make for pagani. if it can send a zonda past 200mph to should go well with the sls. or maybe the SLR Stirling moss engine.

Do I like the way this particular rendition looks? No, not as much as the "regular one." This one got juvenile decals on it and one of those silly wings you put on your front-wheel-drive Honda. Engine from Santa Clause: I'd like to see a 12.6 liter W24 with quad turbos with a thin AMG sticker (to save weight) on it, or the regular 6.2 aka 6.3 liter V8 because of its noise.

please,mercedes...if you should build such a car. leave out the stupid,soulless and heavy V12 and leave the 6.2 ltr V8 with a bit of tuning to around 620 hp. if you save weight through more carbon fibre and less luxury-accessory,you can take this car to a 3,7 sec timo to 60 and a top speed of (unlimited) 200 mp/h...if it can go around corners,you've builded a fantastic car.

how about putting the Pagani V12 in it? The one from the Zonda R to be more specific.. that's 750bhp for ya... seems like enough not? and since it's already an AMG engine, I don't see why Pagani could say no :p

They should sell one of their V12 engines to Zonda, let them tune it, then buy it back and stick it under the bonet :)

I'm not sure if one would fit, but I'd like to see something different from these everyday V12's and V8's. Something like an enormous straight-8. Or V16.

Hmmm... what would go under that huge huge bonnet? One part of me says maybe a very very re-tuned, supercharged V8, maybe using the SLR 722's as a doner, but the other half says a supercharged V12 from the SL Black. Thing is, which do we want? Glorious noise, or mess-your-pants pace?

First of the car has got a huge B-pillar which is why it genuinely needs a small rear smoked side window, the headlights are way too narrow ( though it gives the car it's wide stance ) but also looks quite odd and the entire styling of the car clearly reminds us all of the Viper which make this a drag impersonator of Chrysler's.

I'm looking forward to the Brabus SLS AMG, although Mercedes might not want a car that is, dare I say, better than the SLS AMG. I mean, where was the SLR AMG. But of course Mercedes has McLaren to help them along, but still.

This car looks absolutely stunning. There are only two problems with it however. First problem - I think that the bonnet is TOO long. Look at it from the side and the bonnet looks awful. Tohafat, it dosen't look anything like the GT-R. I agree with ecomania the stock car looks better. Second problem - the engine size is a bit weedy. I reckon it really should of had that lovely 670bhp twin-turbo V12. Because more power is better. Can't wait to see it in the flesh. Will Clarkson drive it on telly?

What has changed considerably in the SLS is that it lost a lot of its curves that used to distinguish it from other cars (apart from its gullwings of course)...am talkin specially about the curves above the headlights

Hm. I would say that Sytse Dijkstra and Jon Sibal are really good at making car renderings...this is still very impressive. Good Job.
