Mercedes E-Class ad

The telly ad for the new Merc E-Class has just dropped through Top Gear's big virtual postbox onto our slightly less virtual doormat. It's worth taking a minute and a half out of your day to have a quick look, so we're not going to say too much about it.

But we will ask just one question: do you think they'll all be available on the options list? Which boxes would you tick? We'll take the pair of nurses, ta...

I notice Mercedes hasn't explained what this 'attention assist' is. If it's a Merc, it should be a bootload of power. Nothing wakes you up quite like massive acceleration. :)

Obscure marketing types definitely came up with that one. Where are they going to show these TV ads anyway except on Youtube, to actually put an ad that long on TV would cost you as much as a car! Still don't like those front lights too much, as one of your writers said it looked like a knock off! Maybe it will look better in the metal, as for the options list less is less and more is quite a lot more really.

That's definitely an ad for the viral age. If it had been a bog standard traditional ad, nobody would have bothered to put it on youtube and send the link around, and there wouldn't have been this article here about it. You aren't meant to like it or hate it, just think it's weird and get more people to look at it (even if it's only because of how strange it is).

Perhaps Mercedes should take leaves from this classic ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdchyecOsh0 Why are the '90s ads so much better than the ones today? :(

Merc has a good history of doing cool ads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9r865NvVv8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5Xr0nwtLkM I do think that the two nurses would definitely help to keep me awake... :-)
