E-marketing
The telly ad for the new Merc E-Class has just dropped through Top Gear's big virtual postbox onto our slightly less virtual doormat. It's worth taking a minute and a half out of your day to have a quick look, so we're not going to say too much about it.
But we will ask just one question: do you think they'll all be available on the options list? Which boxes would you tick? We'll take the pair of nurses, ta...

Obscure marketing types definitely came up with that one. Where are they going to show these TV ads anyway except on Youtube, to actually put an ad that long on TV would cost you as much as a car! Still don't like those front lights too much, as one of your writers said it looked like a knock off! Maybe it will look better in the metal, as for the options list less is less and more is quite a lot more really.

That's definitely an ad for the viral age. If it had been a bog standard traditional ad, nobody would have bothered to put it on youtube and send the link around, and there wouldn't have been this article here about it. You aren't meant to like it or hate it, just think it's weird and get more people to look at it (even if it's only because of how strange it is).

Perhaps Mercedes should take leaves from this classic ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdchyecOsh0 Why are the '90s ads so much better than the ones today? :(

Merc has a good history of doing cool ads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9r865NvVv8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5Xr0nwtLkM I do think that the two nurses would definitely help to keep me awake... :-)

It's a fairly simple advert.....whats the confusion??? It's about a safety feature called "attention assist" which means if you doze off while driving the car does something to wake you up like a beep or maybe the steering whell has some sort of vibrating function or something..... The concept of advertising benefits is a tradition at Mercedes, i just wish they'd gotten somebody a little more creative than the person who came up with this ad.

*sigh* Always such a male perspective... For me as a woman, those nurses would be replaced by Fernando Torres. Anyway, fun commercial, not quite as funny as the one with the CLS Merc. "Olivier! Olivier!!" A couple of weeks back, I saw someone test-driving the new E coupé and I have to say, it looked fantastic.

no "Attention Assist" is most likely a big bleeping tone thing. Much like the same irritation clang to tell you your key is in the ignition. Actually all the cars I've ever owned have had an "attention assist".. Whenever I fall asleep behind the wheel I tend to wake up to what sounds like crumpling bodywork. That'll get your attention!

Meh, looks boring. It might be good, but Merc seriously has to start designing more new looking models. It would be cool if their "base model",or whatever you can call it, looked good. I mean, if it was up to me and i had the money and wanted to buy a merc like car, i wouldn't even consider that. My opinion!

I know that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep with a pair of nurses in the car =P (or with that much people and animals inside the car...)

The music makes me sleepy. Did the driver kick everyone out because the car is so nauseating to drive that he could not focus? Or is that why they have to tell you that it actually has a system to keep you alert? What the hell Mercedes?

Afraque - the car probably knows you're falling asleep due to the sudden change in direction you'll probably take. Citroen have been using a similar system for years now in the C4 and C5.

i remember a mercedes ad for the w124 series e class back when mercedes was the best car money could buy the car was parked all the doors opened windows electrically went down and then ropes put through the windows and the car lifted off the ground just to show how well built the car was. i own an old merc and the ones of the late 90's and early 00's were really not great i can see why so many bought lexus. now i hope that mercedes quality is back

I notice Mercedes hasn't explained what this 'attention assist' is. If it's a Merc, it should be a bootload of power. Nothing wakes you up quite like massive acceleration. :)
