US-based race car builder creates 'ultimate Cayman'

Farnbacher Cayman

There's much conjecture that Porsche won't build an ultimate Cayman because it knows in its heart of hearts that it would be better than the 911, and that can't happen when the 911 is meant to be the daddy.

So, US firm FarnbacherLolesMotorsport decided to build its own ultimate Cayman and has stuck a 400bhp, 3.8-litre flat-six from a 911 into the super-coupe and called it the GTR.

The engine is much modified to reach this power, and is complemented by uprated suspension and brakes to cope.

Farnbacher hasn't got any specific performance figures yet, but because it's a highly experienced builder of Porsche race cars, it's a safe bet that the Cayman GTR is going to be quick and handle well.

The price for the whole conversion, including a new Cayman, works out to $118,500 (£59,000), or you could drive your Cayman in and hand over $56,450 (£28,000) for the full works.
