New Ford Fiesta Econetic

Ford has released a bunch of details on the new Fiesta Econetic, the green version of its soon-to-be-released new supermini.

And it's green. Seriously green. Powered by a 1.6-litre TDCi turbodiesel, the Fiesta Econetic will manage 76.3mpg with CO2 emissions of just 98g/km - meaning that you can give a polite two-fingered salute to the road-taxman.

Such greenness has been achieved thanks to lowered suspension, low rolling resistance tyres and lengthened gears.

It all helps to make the Fiesta Econetic the greenest family car in the UK, undercutting the Seat Ibiza Ecomotive by just 1g/km of CO2 and two miles per gallon.

The Smart ForTwo diesel is slightly greener, but you'll struggle to fit three kids in that without the aid of a hacksaw.

The Fiesta Econetic will go on sale at the end of this year, with prices starting at £11,800.
