Passat gets gold meddle

VW comes close second to Rolls in misguided colour contest

Volkswagen Passat

We like the swept-back looks of VW's CLS-rivalling Passat CC, but at no point have we thought it'd look good in an odd metallic goldie green colour.

Clearly, though, some people have, judging by this 'Gold Coast' special edition CC. And, just like the golden Roller we revealed last week, this isn't the product of a bored tuning company. It's straight from the manufacturer. Volkswagen of America, to be precise.

While the colour might not be quite to our tastes - what about a nice matt black? - the bodykit definitely is.

The classy CC seems like the last car to grab the attention of the Max Power-ers, but those stonking 19-inch alloys and the muscular creases make it the best-looking Passat we've ever seen.

Under the bonnet you'll find, naturally, the CC's biggest engine. It's the 3.6-litre TFSI V6 petrol, pushing out 276bhp and a handy 265lb ft of torque. Nice.

Will you be able to buy it? Well, the Gold Coast's unveil at Pebble Beach seems to hint that our friends across the pond will, but there's no word on any UK availability.

We're keeping our fingers crossed none-the-less. Only in a better colour.
