Hyundai i30

Hyundai says its new i30 small hatchback has 'wave-like and sculpted' lines.

Not sure about that, but we can tell you it will be unveiled at Geneva next week and go on sale in the UK this summer as a five-door hatch followed by an estate version later in the year.

Based on the Arnejs concept that's been doing the motor show rounds, the i30 has been styled and developed in Europe.

There will be three petrol and three diesel engines for the i30, with manual and automatic gearboxes on offer.

Also on Hyundai's Geneva stand will be a crossover concept car called HED 4.

The HED 4 showcases Hyundai's composite materials technology and has a wraparound polycarbonate windscreen, which Hyundai says weighs half that of a glass screen.

There's also an 'Elastic Front' that provides improved pedestrian safety thanks to its energy-absorbing properties.

Hyundai won't say when the Elastic Front will appear on a road car, but insiders reckon it's not too far into the future.
