Video: Hyundai are all lovely
We like a happy ending here at Top Gear. Not the dodgy Thai massage sort, the nice fairy tale sort.
Which is why this story straight out of Canada makes us all warm and fuzzy inside.
Remember the YouTube contender for the world's worst parking job we showed you last week? The one where the hapless BMW X5 driver crushed a pair of innocent cars before hightailing it?
Well, Hyundai's Canadian operation has come to the rescue of one of the victims of the flatten-and-run incident: a gent by the name of Todd Jamison whose mangled car just so happened to be a 2004 Hyundai Elantra.
Check out the YouTube vid of the generous Hyundai souls presenting Mr Jamison with his new car, a shiny new definitely-not-pancaked Elantra Touring.
A nice gesture - and, perhaps more importantly, a smart bit of marketing, too. Now, if only they could replace that BMW driver's legs with a functioning set of limbs...

How nice of Hyundai! Is it me but was he a bit disappointed that they were replacing his Hyundai with another Hyundai? I wonder if he will sell it and buy something else?!

His reaction was so fake and performed. It's a happy ending and all, and a really generous gesture by Hyundai (even if it WAS a Hyundai...) but they could have at least filmed it live and not tell him beforehand that he was going to get a brand new car.

you see, the problem with hyundai, is that on canadian roads they fall apart in a year or two. here in canada we have the worst roads (it's best to get an SUV, a truck, or a subaru) this guys car will last him about 2 years and then the engine will fall out the bottom from all the salt poured on snowy roads.

Cadpat, I don't know what you're smoking (BC hydro maybe?) but that's not true at all. My brother has an Elantra that has lasted him 5 years so far without a single problem. Not to mention that Hyundai's have a ridiculously long warranty anyway. Not that I condone buying one ... but at least get your facts straight. ;) I thought this video was just so Canadian ... everyone is so nice and happy and the weather is s***. haha!

Yeah everybody is so happy, and why shouldn't they be? Canadians are a relentlessly chipper bunch. The future of the seal clubbing industry is in their hands -- you should be grateful.

The_Monk: Hahaha, that's funny cause it might just be the most ignorant comment I've ever heard. Don't forget that we also live in igloos and have polar bears as pets.

That's nice... I do need some help from someone to destroy my old Hyundai in front of a camera... I'll sell the new one they'll give me afterward to get a car, and give you some cash. What about that?

Lizard, you should perhaps persuade Clarkson and the boys to stop paying attention to caravans and take you up on the offer.

So when somebody destroys your Hyundai, the company will give you a new one as a gesture of kindess? I'd have thought it was a public service to just destroy the Hyundai...
