Space Ibiza
This little sketch gives you a rough idea of what Seat's next big project will look like - it's an estate version of the little Ibiza.
Led by Seat design chief and ex-Lamborghini man Luc Donckerwolke, the Ibiza ST is a rakish shape that'll probably put looks ahead of capacity - a bit like a ‘small premium estate', as the man at Seat was keen to tell us.
It sits on a slightly stretched Ibiza platform (itself shared with the latest Polo) and will get some new engines not offered in the existing line-up. The idea is to take the fight to the French - namely Renault Clio and Peugeot 207, which, let's face it, isn't going to be much of a scrap.
Other details at this stage are, er, sketchy. A concept will probably be ready for the Paris show later this year and that'd mean an on-sale date of early 2011.

Top Gear - I think you mean the Frankfurt Motorshow later this year - Paris is in 2010!!!

A Seat to take on the 207 SW and (laughably named) Clio 'Sport Tourer'? Wow, that's quite a niche market. What's the point exactly? Is Seat just bored? Or does the new Polo just mean more bits for them to play with?

Why would anyone buy an Ibiza Estate? Do they even think before making decisions? Exeo Estate - sounds good. But Ibiza Estate - not. They should stick to cheeper-and-more-exciting than VW's cars. And maybe (underlined) they sell something.

The VW stable already has a competent small estate in the Skoda Fabia but I suppose a funky option would be the SEAT to take on the cutesy 207. I think that this niche will actually grow with people wanting more occasional space in a car but one that is cheap to run when it's empty. It makes more sense than having a big tank of a Volvo estate or a diesel from the next class up if you don't do too much mileage.

It looks a lot like an Audi Q5 and does the world really need another supermini estate?
