SC: short for...?

Supercharged? SportCoupe? The latter, but we still like Seat's 3dr Ibiza

Seat Ibiza SportsCoupe

We admit we got a bit worked up when Seat casually mentioned the 'new Ibiza SC' to us a while back.

SC? A supercharged supermini with pointy styling from former Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke? Yes please.

Well, we were right to get worked up, but wrong about one little detail... the supercharged bit. OK, we knew it was never really going to be supercharged, but hey, you can always dream.

See, SC here stands for SportsCoupe - Seat's swish new name for the three-door Ibiza.

As we expected, it looks good. Sitting a couple of centimetres lower than the five-door Ibiza, the SC remains impressively close to the BocaNegra, minus a few bits of black plastic and trick headlights.

But expect the FR and Cupra versions - set to debut in the next few months - to look even closer.

There's no word on how hot they might be - in fact, there's no concrete details on any of the Ibiza SC's engines yet - but expect them to be available with VW's seven-speed DSG gearbox.

And, if we ask really nicely, maybe a supercharger too? No?
