FX takes on X6
Infiniti has announced pricing for the FX, its big luxury SUV-crossover-device set to arrive in the UK this September.
It’s not cheap, but then again it’s quite a lot of car… in every sense.
Prices will start at £42,600 for the FX37 GT, which is right on entry-level BMW X6 money. It’s powered by a 3.7-litre V6 – a close relation of the engine found in the Nissan 370Z – putting out 316bhp and 266lb ft of torque, good for a 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds. Hardly tardy in a vehicle the size of the FX.
Like the G37 cabrio we saw last week, there’s plenty of kit on board, though you’ll have to pay extra if you fancy Infiniti’s amazing ‘Around View Monitor’, which uses cameras mounted at the corners of the vehicle to provide a 360-degree top-down view when parking. We’ve tried it. It’s impressive.
If you want to give the full middle-finger salute to BMW X6M drivers, you’ll need the FX50 with its 385bhp 5.0-litre V8. OK, it’s not quite into M-Division levels of power, but it will hit 62mph in 5.8 seconds and sledgehammer into the limiter at 155mph.
Oh, and cost you £53,800. Admittedly, that's with all the extras you’ll ever, and never, need.
Top Gear got an early drive in the FX a few months back, and we can report that – so long as you can see past the FX’s whale-sharkish looks – it’s an impressive car. How do you think Infiniti will fare in the UK?

look at it!! so aggressive it merits a registration plate that reads "grr"...and judging by it's face, it takes it's excess aggression out by charging at walls!

What's with Infiniti's affection for this rust orange color? I see it on nearly all the 370Z on the road -- and especially in their marketing what-nots. I think it's disgusting. I always have, however, been impressed with the interiors on the FX cars (cars?).

Has quite a long bonnet doesn't it? i like it, i think. but id have the X6 for snob value, and i prefer X6m's looks infiniti maybe able to fool americans into buying up market nissans but to me it sounds like bargin bin branding.

yes please! now just to save up the money required, which i am guessing will take about 200 years give or take then off to the dealership and pick up my new infinti fx! ah there is a flaw with the whole 200 years thing

The BMW X6 looks amazing , drives amazingly , handles amazingly and is better than anything this low rent , Japanese company can through at it. I mean , Infiniti enter the British car market and target the Daddy of all Car makers BMW.Lets face it , it was never going to work. The FX looks like a constipated Whale. BMW all the way.

This is a newer model that looks like an angry shark the earlier model looked like a smiling shark.............. but shark for sure. Awesome car to drive and good interiors. The engine is very responsive compared to the Bimmer but the interiors dont look as classy as the BMW. Dont really know whether it can beat BMW but can surely give it a good run for its money.

i think its horrid. over the years they have kinda lost the concept of a 4x4. they supposed to make mountains move for them and run children over just for fun. now most of the 4x4s are supposed to be people friendly and protect the enviroment. that isnt what 4x4s should do they should do the total opposite. i think that cars is b*****ks and the designer should be hung

I'd buy one (if I were in such a market) because it really stands out from the crowd. Perhaps not always in a good way though. Those worried about colour - it's also available in black, silver, dark blue, beige, silver and coffee brown. Badge snobs won't go for it, and unfortunately they're the ones with all the money...

Okay so here's the thing! I absolutely hated the X6 when I first saw it and am now about to put in an order for one it has grown on me so much. The Infiniti is a great car (I saw one in Turkey) but it is so definately Japanese in a way that no German car is. It won't handle like the X6 or reek of quality like the X6 does! What's more, at the moment the X6 comes with some pretty amazing discounts - would you really pay more for the Nissan? (er Infiniti). To top it off, the BMW has one of the best diesel engines and returns 34mpg, what does the Infiniti return with its petrol range of engines?

I saw one of those today, looked fairly good, big, aggressive, quite menacing in gun-metal grey.
