Is it a bird? Is it an iron?
Pop quiz time: what the hell are you looking at?
An X-ray of a badly broken leg? A sketch of a magnificent heron in flight? Some sort of conceptual iron?
No, no and no. It's the new Infiniti M, Nissan's luxury rival to the BMW 5-Series and Merc E-Class, set to be unveiled at the posh Pebble Beach Concours in a couple of weeks time.
We do occasionally scoff at daft teaser sketches, but there's a lot you can tell from this one. Like, er, the fact that it has some sort of roofline. And a front. And a back.
And that's about it. Infiniti is keeping schtum on any details about the new M, but we'd expect it to share swoopy styling with the rest of the Infiniti range, and feature the 3.7-litre V6 from the Nissan 370Z, perhaps in a more conservative state of tune.
We'll find out for sure at Pebble Beach, but until then, let's play the snappily named ‘Of What Improbably Non-Car Object Does The Infiniti Teaser Remind You?' game. Suggestions please...

Could be some sort of expensive speedboat. There are no body lines of the hull because it's naturally submerged in water? I've decided it must be that. If Aston Martin is making the Cygnet and giving it a yacht and ship analogy, Infiniti have taken that concept and gone for more 'ship' than 'yacht'. I propose we go to the official launch, audibly expecting an infiniti speedboat. When infiniti get bemused and say "No, we make cars not boats!" we can retort with "well next time draw scribbles and call it a teaser picture you idiots!"

Well, those lines are classic - in the sense that that's how most young car stylists start out when they have a pen in one hand and a napkin in the other. The face and arse will tend to be more important in selling cars though, and it remains to be seen whether Nissan can come up with something original and stylish for those. But this is a great profile. If they get all of those right, they just (!) need to overcome to brand barrier.

it looks like a Astin martin design , but it looks like they have put alot of design in it to make it better then any supercar and the streemline is pefect i wouldnt fault it in any way. i know without looking at it the real picture that it will be a really good car.

If I had a semipro GT racing team and had this for a company logo, I'd be very proud. On the rear end you can still see the strokes of the paintbrush. Since it's supposed to be an Infinity, I think it'll be a GT of the too-little-too-late class, a 612 Wannabe with a supercharged 370 engine. It won't be well developed, it won't rev and it'll suffer form terminal understeer. And the front'll look cissy.

why buy one over a merc or bmw thers no point. i would rather a volvo s80 than these cars. like lexus, infiniti and accura. the extra price is for the badge and i dont mind that the mercedes badge is worth paying for it is also something that sticks from the bonnet and looks good. but this will be rubbish. all these car companies can make a big luxury car even hyundai and kia are trying but they all lack prestige and proper good loooks

Well, if it's anything like the previous Infiniti M, or "Nissan Fuga" as it's known in Japan, it will have a 4.5 V8 (as seen in the FX45), the 370Z engine - also used in the Infiniti G37, or "Nissan Skyline" - and be RWD. But, as with the G, the top-flight one will have optional AWD. Perhaps GT-R based this time around? That would be nice. A 4dr GT-R. It has been rumoured (only it would NEVER be called a Nissan GT-R if it had 4 doors, it would bear the luxo-badge and be styled as such).

Obviously, after a big meal of KFC, the designer was inspired by the wishbone (viewed side-on and before breaking it and making a wish to one day become a real designer).
