Koenigsegg vs Armco
"Er, hi, it's the dealership here. Yeah, the Koenigsegg dealership, the one looking after your super-rare and ludicrously expensive CCX. Um, I'm afraid we have some rather bad news. We kind of, erm, crashed it. A lot."
A phone call, saying something along those lines, was made by a rather guilty dealership owner in New York last week. He had to 'fess up, after taking the customer's car for a blast around town and accidentally smashing it into some Armco, taking out a 911 GT2 for good measure...
Our friends at WreckedExotics.com were on the scene and took this picture (they must have a team of crash pixies patrolling the world's roads on the lookout for clumsy supercar drivers).
In the ranking of Worst Days of Your Life, that would sit somewhere around the top. Just next to ‘the day I tried a naked leap into a landmine pit'. Or something.
Maybe it was all the car's fault. We wonder if it had the Top Gear-spec wing? Remember the one?

Dealership staff taking customer cars out for joyrides should be sacked, and pay for every single penny in case of damage. My sister had her car taken for a ride like that once. Luckily there was no damage, but the dirty footprints all over the seats and the load of extra miles on the odometer were a very unpleasant surprise nonetheless. If I were the owner of that Koenigsegg, I would have simply demanded a brand new car. After verbally castrating the idiot responsible of course.

I think part of me just died inside. Whilst it's understandably tempting, dealers should NEVER do that with valuable cars. Especially one with a reputation like the Koenigsegg's for getting a little, er, brown. That's real insult to injury too that he managed to collect a £120k 911 GT2 as well. Will he pay for that in cash, card, organs or limbs?

I used to know a bloke who was service manager for a dealer who shall remain nameless. Having completed a service of a customer's car (we'll just say a very expensive, brand-new, 2-door, limited edition performance car of the 80s, to further ensure no-one gets into trouble) the car was being driven to the paint shop to have a couple of stone chips painted in (as it had only done 5,000 miles, this was under warrantee, as a goodwill gesture) - the delivery driver was told to take it easy as the car was a beast. My mate got a call from the guy 10 mins later. "Where are you?" ... the reply "in a field" told him all he needed to know.

Looking at this and the Stig's crash I think Koenigsegg makes more money by selling replacement frontend bumpers than actual cars.

That's not really the best way to use a supercar. I have to admit though it's extremely tempting to just floor it when you get the privilege to drive a fast car, although if your going to push the pedal on the right all the way down in a CCX you probably need to prepare first, and obviously the guy at the dealership didn't. Utter moron!

Well, there's a TopGear top tip: never drive a Koeningsegg (or a Bugatti, or a Lamborghini, or a...you get the point) when you claerly don't have enough brains to return it in the same condition you recieved it. And anouther top tip: never lend your 'Segg to your dealer.
