Drop-top Yank tank to hit UK shores late 2011 with a 6.2-litre V8 and added noise

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible

Fact: US muscle cars don't work over here. But you will want to throw that fact away because Chevy has unveiled the Camaro Convertible at the LA Motor Show, and it's rather delectable.

The iconic Chevy muscle car loses its head as it makes its debut near the Hollywood hills, but apparently, will lose none of the 'driving fun' you get in the coupe.

In fact, Chevrolet reckons it has better torsional stiffness than a BMW 3 Series convertible, and as reckoning goes, that's a big one.

Lots of strategic reinforcements have been bolted on to stop it from wobbling your stomach into submission, including a 'tower-to-tower', front and rear underbody and transmission braces. Along with a few other gubbins, Chevy reckons this allows the Camaro to be as much of a bender as the Beemer.

The power hood retracts in about 20 seconds, and you're then transported to a world of V8 noise and follicular damage. The Camaro convertible gets the same 6.2-litre 426bhp V8 like the coup' complete with 420lb ft of torque, which is plentiful.

We'll spare judgement on its ride and handling abilities when we get our greedy, grubby paws on it, but for now, savour those pics and imagine you're cruising through the rain-sodden back-roads of Hertfordshire, wind in your woolly hat and Radio 4 gently thrumming in the background. It's almost LA...

What do you think?

I absolutely love this car!! I love all Camaros. It is not about how it drives, feels in a corner or any other dynamic!! Just gets me going. Its like Hamster and his stupid Morgan - some cars just do that to you. I would just put on black rimmed-low profiles on with a matte black paint job and it will be a beast!!!

Not to be too picky guys, but just to set the record straight, the Camaro is not American. It's Canadian. So was the last one. Perhaps knowing that it is built within the commonwealth will assist you in not hating it straight away. ;)

i agree. topgear goes on and on about how bad american cars handle, cause they continually test overweight pigs like this. why dont they test the 2011 mustang? it apparently is as good as an m3 on a track!
