Renault's new Laguna Coupe just isn't as cool as the concept

Renault Laguna Coupe

Renault's Laguna Coupe debuted on the weekend at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by a couple of laps around the Monaco GP circuit.

The first thing that strikes us is that it's a lot cooler looking than the saloon, but the second thing is that it's just not as cool as the Coupe Concept that we saw in Frankfurt last year.

Cars rarely end up looking as good as their concepts, though - but where have those awesome smoked wheels gone? - so we'll reserve judgement until we see one in the car park.

Details are still fairly hazy too, but it will come with either of two V6 engines: a diesel with 237bhp and 243lb ft, or the petrol out of the Nissan 350Z, detuned slightly to 232bhp and 332lb ft.

It will arrive at 62mph in under seven seconds via an auto six-speed transmission, has the same four-wheel steer as the saloon, and turns up on either 17- or 18-inch wheels.

We do like that boot, though. It's a bit V8 Vantage.
