LFA configurator: surprisingly cheap
After the delays and the grainy videos, Lexus’s 500bhp V10 supercar has finally taken centre stage in Tokyo, and now here’s your chance to virtually destroy your very own LFA as the online configurator hits the web.
You know we like a good configurator at TopGear.com, and this… well, it’s not really a very good configurator. Not because of the appalling colour choices – Pearl Brown, Fresh Green or Passionate Pink, anyone? – because we rather approve of appalling colour choices.
No, our problem with the LFA configumatron is that it’s all bit… budget, isn’t it? Which isn’t exactly what you’d expect from a £330,000 supercar.
In fact, we’d expect the configurator for a £330,000 supercar to offer us a complimentary espresso, polish our brogues and applaud us on how dapper we’re looking. The LFA configurator does none of these things.
Still, it does allow you to devise a most hideous multi-tone interior. If you’re stuggling to make your LFA’s cabin suitably retch-inducing, we’d recommend kicking off with a red headliner matched to a violet centre console. Mmm, violently clashing…

That´s a good move from Toyota to boost their boring image. All of their cars are well working, flawless tools like a washing machine. Are you passionate about them as a car enthusiast? Nope. This one is an emotional product, a technology show case, a limited edition race car - to learn new technologies like producing carbon fiber shells in-house for the first time and that they are capable of producing a thoroughbred, which it really is. They loose money on selling them. But we will find parts of those solutions in future Toyota´s. This project is in progress already since years, so its coming to market at a weird time. And they will make a gtr rival for the "massmarket" based on the experience the gathered with this one. Good point tohafat.

Steel Blue for me, thank you. Cheaper the car better the configurator. This is one of the worst ones I've come across. The interior is quite smooth but the exterior is a bit rough. On the other hand the best one I've used is the Fiat 500 configurator.

That is a very ugly car. Looks like a modified Supra, certainly not worth a third of a million pounds.

I would much rather have a 458 than that. In my opinion, overpriced,Japanese nonsense.

With all the wacky colours, does anyone get the feeling Toyota/Lexus are trying to re-create the '70's muscle cars? Dodge Charger in Plum Crazy, anyone?

Am I the only person who rrreeeeeaallllyyyy wants this car?? The rear end is wall-poster aggressive, the interior looks really cool and interesting, and it sounds absolutely phenomenal! And hats off to them for sticking a huge "L" badge on the bonnet, when they know that badge-snobs will be put off. And I love that it's offered in pink and peppermint green and poo brown - it's all about having a laugh and driving, which is what sportscars should be about. So Ferrari can keep their poser 458 and its 100 shades of red - this is what supercars are meant to be about!

meh... i honestly thought this car was going to be much better.. but once Toyota released the sticker price, performance numbers, and that only 500 will be sold to selected customers. it became obvious that this car became nothing more then a way to bring attention and prestige to Lexus so people will think of them to offer quality and performance as the Germans or Italians. It was supposed to be a car that crushes the GT-R, ZR-1 and all of the worlds supercars for a cheaper price, and it was originally supposed to be a Hybrid, and dominate the R8 as a daily driver, sort of like a GT-R but two steps up. but the car is a complete FLOP, it cost over 100k MORE then cars that are faster and better looking.. that's why their only making 500 to be sold to people who will agree to say nothing but good things about it.. and im sure it's a decent car.. but it's sure as hell isn't competitive.

I'm starting to think that the people who post on here only drive cars in videogames. Tohafat, Vinnx and Ben27 in particular. Ever driven a Lexus or any of its competition? It's not all about horsepower, even though the LF-A has 550 from a 4.8L 9000rpm V10 and that's quite a lot for such a light car. It's about the total package when you buy a Lexus. Everything is well thought out, and functions perfectly. The attention to detail in all of the Lexus's we've owned has been amazing. Not giving Toyota, a brand that's been around longer than popular supercar makers, credit obviously comes from an overall ignorance about cars and a lack of time in the driver's seat.

And another thing tohafat, WHY should they make a GT-R rival instead of a Ferrari rival? You said "just making a point" but had nothing to back that "point" up. I'd like to know why people say things like that with no facts to back them. "Oh Lexus shouldn't make a supercar." Same mentality that people had when they came out with the original LS? Yeah, Lexus has been a real flop of a company hasn't it? They didn't compete with or do better than the German luxury carmakers at all... Oh wait, they DID! So why not a supercar?

@invisiblepigeon i've never said the LF-A was a bad car.. in fact i said at the end of my post it's probably decent. and no i havent driven any of these super cars, but how many people really have? i was just simply stating that the car is competing with cars that are a 100k cheaper then it. and i doubt you've sat in either the 458 or LF-A since neither are out yet, so how can you say that the fit and finish and overall quality is worth a hundred thousand dollars more, then the 458, lmbo, aston martin, and mercedes, which i believe is all the LF-A has to separate it from its competition.. because so far on paper it's not offering anything extra in performance.. which is what i believe supercars are all about right? anyways, congratulations, your someone Lexus will probably agree to sell and LF-A to.

Toyota should have made a gtr rival, not a Ferrari rival. Just making a point.
