Life is good. There's a bank holiday weekend on the way, England have just won the Ashes (come on, you didn't think we could go long without mentioning that, did you?)... and Maserati has just revealed its gorgeous new convertible, the GranCabrio.
Pretty thing, ain't it? The GranCabrio is based on the two-door GranTurismo, and is the first-ever four-seat convertible in Maserati's history.
Unlike the slightly related Ferrari California, it gets a fabric soft-top instead of a metal roof, which is good news for weight, handling and aesthetics - check out that petite backside and tell us why you'd ever build a car with a folding hard-top.
The GranCabrio is powered by the same 4.7-litre V8 as in the GranTurismo S, putting out 433bhp at a revvy 7,000rpm, along with 362lb ft of torque.
Which means it won't be slow: though Maser is yet to release performance figures, we'd expect the GranCabrio to hit 60mph in around five and half seconds and run all the way to 180mph or so.
Even with that fabric roof, the GranCabrio (do you think we should shorten it to GC?) won't be a featherweight, exactly - with the structural reinforcements required to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof, it'll weigh in around the two-tonne mark.
But who cares? The GC (yep, we're going for it) isn't about Ferrari Scud Spider-rivalling open-top handling. It's about big sunglasses and clear skies and gorgeous coastal roads and, perchance, a trio of pneumatic ladies in the three passenger seats. And gelato.
We'll get a closer look at the Maserati GC at the Frankfurt show in a few weeks' time. Expect prices to start at around £90,000. Expect to want one.

Maserati need a policy of "beautiful people only" for their open tops. Such a beautiful car would be ruined if some old bald guy were cruise around in one.

Don't you think that 5.5 seconds to 60mph is a little disapointing??? Seing as the similairily priced M6 cabrio does it in about 4.7 and a new 5.0 litre supercharged Range Rover gets there in about 6, I would say it needs more power to compete with the other cars it's pitched against. Jag XKR = 510bhp and it's about £10,000 less. And just about as good looking. All it's competitors linger around the 500 horse mark and 440 simply isn't enough, especially as it's undoubtably heavier than the Jag, or the M6. And adding insult to injury both the aformentioned cars will do 200mph should you remove the limiters making 180 seem positively pedestrian.

Beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, wonderful, magnificent, glorious...how many superlatives do you want to use? I'd personally rather have the hardtop GranTurismo S to be slightly less conspicuous, but said hardtop is right now, at the top of the tree on my dream car list. What a Ferrari, or a Porsche, or a GT-R (and god how I do love the GT-R for entirely different reasons) might have on it in terms of performance is definitely more than made up for by those looks. You can keep your numbers, maths, logic and science this time - they simply do not matter with a car that looks like that. Fantastic. Now where's that lottery ticket.....

Wow. That looks b-e-a-utiful. They've even got the colours right! Although metallic black with red leather is arguably better. This is the ideal car to cruise to the riviera in, or along the alps. Or in the Yorkshire Dales (yup, we have pretty places too). Performance aside, it rivals a DB9 Volante IMO. And performance should be to one side, as it is utterly irrelevant. You'll never do a 0-60 or V-Max run in this, will you? You'd get flies all over it.

I want to love it but I think I only like it. Perhaps it looks better in real life - there is something strange about its proportions. As a coupe it is perfect. As a convertible it's like a four seated bath tub, but a beautiful bath tub. Possibly it will look perfect with the roof up.

masseratti is making fantasticly beautiful cars at the moment and their good looks seems to be having a good effect on fiats look at the bravo and punto they clearly have a touch of maseratti in their styling

AlKim, unless the roof takes up a LOT of space, it should easily seat 4 adults, just like the coupe, as underneath it's essentially a slightly shorter Quattroporte.

Ok, I don't like the Coupe GranTurismo. It reminds me too much of some kind of bottom feeding fish from the front and its always fiddling with the "Looks a bit like an RX8 at the front" toggle switch in my brain. However with its roof cut off. I don't care, god its a gorgeous looking car.

This car is really gorgeous indeed. I'm not sure I would want one though, because of the shitty weather in my country. The-Educator, its an Italian car, it does not need pointless amounts of power to defy gravity or the laws of physics, it is what you get when you couldn't get in on the Alfa 8c Spider... and that's a plenty good replacement as they both look astonishing (the Alfa more so, though)

Gorgeous.........absolutely exquisite. I don't see why everybody's bothered about top speeds and cornering performance. It could'nt do those things properly as a hard top and with the roof removed I can only imagine it's gotten even softer. That, however does'nt mean it's useless, I think it's a superb GT car and with the roof down it'll be the ultimate cruise-mobile.

@VieVentar - while I maintain the car is just about the prettiest on sale today, I do understand where you're coming from with the bottom-feeder comment - the grille, if put on MANY cars would look terrible as it would be the only thing to draw your eye. However the GT(S) and its GC cousin make it work very well as the (awesome looking) lights and line of the bonnet take over, making it look sleek and feline - the grille then supplies the aggression to get it away from being overly cutesie, so you have the sex & violence bases both covered. In tandem I think it works brilliantly.
