Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS

2009 could be a big year for four-door supercars: with luck, we could see the Porsche Panamera, Aston Rapide and Lambo Estoque.

Determined to keep in touch with the competition, Maserati has warmed up its already-toasty Quattroporte S to create the Quattroporte Sport GTS – the most powerful, quickest iteration of its gorgeous four-door yet.

Power from the 4.7-litre V8 has been hiked from 425bhp to 433bhp courtesy of an engine remap and a bigger, louder exhaust, while stiffer springs and a lowered ride height should sharpen up the driving (though not too much, we hope).

No word on how much quicker the Sport GTS will be, but we’d guess it’ll be getting mightly close to a five-second-flat 0-60mph time. Which is plenty respectable, really.

There’s been a bit of visual tweakery, too – a new grille, fresh headlights and some new sports seats. Nothing to upset the lovely lines of the QP, mind.

We’ll see the covers come the Quattroporte Sport GTS at the Detroit show in the middle of this month. Aston, Porsche and Lambo will be looking closely, rest assured.

What do you think?

Well, I am selling my Quattroprte Sport GTS (my second Quattroporte) in exchange for a Grancabrio. I have to say that as four-seat / four-door cars go, I have never driven anything better for everyday use. I would give it maximum possible scoring.
