Return of the Saint
‘Tis the season for retro redesigns. Last week we showed you Arturo Alonso’s stunning Merc SL, and today it’s the turn of Mattias Vocks to dream up a gorgeous reworking of the Volvo P1800.
Vocks is a Koenigsegg engineer by day, but in his spare hours creates modified, retro-modern Volvos. This time he’s turned his attentions to the P1800 – the car driven by Roger Moore in The Saint, if you’re thinking it looks slightly familiar – with the help of Swedish design firm Vizualtech.
OK, it’s only a rendering at this stage, but it’s a good looking rendering, isn’t it? We like those skinny pillars and chromed front end, though we might change the wheels for something a little more classic.
Vocks is keen to put the P1800 into limited production, though, armed with a 4.4-litre V8 nicked from a Volvo XC90 and a big turbocharger to put out around 600bhp through the rear wheels.

I'd sign up, and it really doesn't have to have 600hp: 10hp would be quite enough to drive it out of the garage and park it in the sunshine. I'll just sit there looking at it, drooling. Although that Merc SL is very nice also... Hmm...

is it everybody REALLY likes this or there is some censorship on the site, so only 'yes' answers are allowed? mine is NO. its impractical, ugly, unsafe, car-to-walker-collision unfriendly, and finaly expensive (limited production). why would somebody buy this? pfff :D

Obelix you have to be so serious don't you? Yes it has got disputable styling yes it hasn't got a million stars at NCAP but car to walker collision that Volvo as people are calling it would just eat people like a Bentley Brooklands you didn't complain about that car did you? And FINALLY of course it is going to be a limited run of cars because Volvo would go bust for example 600bhp from a car company that it's main priority is adaptive headlights and a million airbags, why don't you just enjoy the moment and finally to answer you question of course people are going to buy it I want mine if I had the money in White with Black leather......just enjoy the moment you might not see a car like this again....from Volvo

Many sports cars are impractical, unsafe, car-to-pedestrian unfriendly and expensive. I can't say anything about the general looks of sports cars, obviously.

Nice. Very nice. Just lacking in wire wheels, then I'm sold. A little bit unsure however about how that needle thin roof will hold in a crash, however!

Sorry, proffesional deformation (I'm industrial designer). Ok, point taken. It's beautiful, but I also think wheels are too big, even for a concept. Those flat tires should really afect comfort. And this is about the looks and the feel, not so much a track day car. And in a car like this, having a 4.4 V8 only makes me wonder the cool deep sound, like the Marcos Richard tested.

Yummy. Though the wheels are too big (they were on the Retromodern SL Gullwing too, come to think of it). But 600bhp? That makes it a little faster than the old P1800, then? The Saints Are Coming. Fast.
