A while back Mazda blew us away with the rather delectable Shinari concept - the first outing of its new ‘Kodo' design language.
Now it has revealed that thing you see above, dubbed ‘Minagi', ahead of its world premiere at the Geneva motor show in March.

The second entry into this new design language is a compact crossover SUV, dahling, roughly equivalent in stature to the Volkswagen Tiguan/BMW X3 et al.
Mazda reckons it's the ‘forerunner' to a clutch of next-gen products, and features a ‘Skyactiv' engine, transmission, body and chassis. Skyactiv, if you are unaware, is Mazda's blanket term incorporating their environmentally cuddly technology which still responds to driving pleasure.
Oh, and that Shinari we told you about will be sitting alongside the Minagi on Mazda's stand at the Geneva motor show, making its European premiere, along with the company's Skyactiv tech exhibits - direct injection petrol engine, clean diesel, and a manual and auto gearbox.

We'll bring you more from Geneva as it drops, and don't forget, we'll be lurking the show floor hunting for crisps, and some new car stuff, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, why not entertain the Internet with your measured and thoughtful riposte to this concept car?

Looks good, better than any of its rivals. Wonder what it would be like against the Range Rover Evoque? (if they ever make it like that)

I don't like any of those new SUV's. They all look like a BMW X6 on LSD.

Looks more like an oversized hatchback than a SUV but I suppose that's what most people want so it'll probably sell well. Personally I'd still rather have a defender or range rover.

Reminds me of an Infiniti... Could this spawn a new Mazda luxury sub-brand? Oh right, they used to have on... anyone remember Xedos?

It's a fake SUV, it wouldn't get up my driveway in winter on those low profile tires. We live in the snow belt of Southern Ontario, Canada. I have to drive a real 4X4, a Ford Explorer, great vehicle. Please car manufacturers, if you want to produce an SUV try designing them for the purpose they are meant for rather than posh housewives in Surrey.
