A coupe of sorts

Or 'Megane three-door', as the rest of us call it. Looks good, though

Renault Megane Coupe

Ah, now that's a lot better. This is the Megane Coupe, Renault's only-slightly-stretching-the-truth name for the three-door iteration of its new C-segment hatch.

We saw the pictures of the five-door a few weeks back, and found it - well, a touch understated, let's put it that way. But the three-door looks much, much better, even in that strange shade of brown. Sorry, 'burnt orange'.

OK, so it doesn't have the mad double-dragonfly wings of the Megane Coupe concept, but those strong shoulders and raked roofline give the Megane a far sharper look. We like the silver inserts below the front lights, too, which give the front end of the car a much deeper, cohesive look.

The Coupe will launch soon after the Megane, with the same range of engines, we're told - six diesels (three of which will emit less than 120g/km of CO2) ranging from 84bhp to 160bhp, and a few petrols including a juicy-sounding TCE turbo engine developing 178bhp.

We've been digging around for news of a RenaultSport version, but Renault insiders won't tell us anything apart from the fact that it exists. And it looks awesome. And it'll be available in Coupe version before it reaches the five-door.

OK, that's actually quite a lot of stuff they told us. Just imagine the Coupe with bigger arches, a bit of a bodykit and, say, 250bhp of turbocharged loveliness. Tempting proposition, eh?
