Mercedes S600

The last time we saw a four-door convertible this good looking, an American president was losing his head down in Dallas.

But this isn't a Lincoln or the 1960s - this is a Mercedes and it will be wowing the crowds at the Detroit motor show.

Called Concept Ocean Drive, it's basically a Merc S600 saloon with the roof lopped off and some fancy LED headlights grafted on.

There are no side pillars to spoil the lines of the convertible Ocean Drive, and the roof stores under the boot lid for an uncluttered appearance.

Mercedes has incorporated its clever Airscarf system from the SLK into all of the headrests of the Ocean Drive, to keep all four occupants toasty warm when driving with the roof down.

The company says the Concept Ocean Drive is just that, a concept built to gauge public reaction. However, insiders say Mercedes is further down the line with an S-Class drop-top than just a one-off show car.
