Mind the cap
Yesterday we showed you a picture of the new E-Class Estate - one of Merc's most important cars of the year.
The budget is signed off, the car is ready and they've just spanked millions on a new advert - twisty roads, helicopter cams, mega driving shots, the full cheesy works.
Then some idiot removed the fuel cap.

Oops. So what happened to it?
Maybe they took it for a spin through Longleat before the shoot, and the cap is now in the hands of a thieving pack of lemurs.
Or maybe some rednecks nicked it, to make into a swanky catflap for their trailer park home.

I do not understand burglars. No, I won't have the bonnet ornament, I won't have the Sat Nav, I'll have the fuel cap. I'm sure that will sell of squillions on the black market of Slough. Nobody has a fuel cap.

I never liked Merc estates... They never seem aerodynamic nor sporty, not even proportional. Best estates: Audi... =]

Certainly a few years ago the theft of a fuel cap (assuming its a lockable one, using the same key as the rest of the car) was usually indicative that you are about to have your car stollen! As the criminal now has in effect the locking mechanism for your pride and joy, and can therefore create a key etc. Saying that I doubt this is the issue here, some numpty probably put it on the roof while filling up!

It was always common to steal the 3 pointed star off the front of a Merc so it's perhaps the latest trend, or maybe a greenie has stolen it to protest that Mercs use too much fuel?! Either way it makes an exceptionally dull and badly styled car look more interesting so I think it's all just a clever marketing ploy.

I think it's made on purpose, so a bored man in a boring morning can say "hey look at that! I have to email every single people in the world to say them that i saw this thing before them!!! Yeah I'm cool!". No you don't. And I don't like the car. Genuine "i'm better than you" german humour.

mercedes make great estates that do what estates should do ie be big very big. i really hope mercedes have pulled quality levels up to what they were back in the 1980's remember the 230e they were tanks that just looked like cars. i really hope that mercedes works on quality to top the leader boards again just to annoy lexus and their 'pursuit of perfection'

It is not a burglary, this kind of cars and used for spots are heavily guarded. I do not think that is a problem of quality control. The first thing that crossed my mind, is that the design of the car does not include a cap or simply, is very transparent.

guys, to my mind that's just a nice piece of viral marketing - nobody would pay attention and watch this crap ad, if there were no goof in it. Add a minor goof to a premium class ad with a huge budget - and every motoring website in the net will deliver your ad to the audience, making more and more people watch it )) Job is done :)
