24 Hours of GT-R
Anyone heading to the big 24 hour race at Belgium's Spa circuit this weekend?
If so, keep an eye out for this, the awesome Nissan GT-R GT1 racer. Yes, the track-spec Godzilla is competing in the endurance race ahead of an all-out assault on the FIA GT championship next year.
Having dominated the Japanese Super GT championship last year, we'd expect the GT-R to be right at the front of the pack in Spa. Unlike the road car's V6, the racer is powered by 5.6-litre V8 putting out 600bhp and 480lb ft of torque. To conform with GT1 regulations, it's rear-wheel drive. Sounds like a handful, eh?
But how will it fare against its tried-and-tested competitors - including Maserati MC12s, Corvette C6Rs, Saleen S7Rs and Ford GTs - at Spa? We'll let you know next week...

The Maserati and Saleen GT1's are the cars to beat in this class, hope Nissan can pull it off.

I'll be there... I'll miss the screaming sounds of Aston's and Lambo V12's but I hope that this thing can liven things up a bit... otherwise it's gonna be a fairly dull race with Maserati on top without a doubt... :s

Hopefully it will kick the crap out of anyone who underestimated it. I also find it annoying that the TG presenters are calling it "A Datsun, not cool" Hell that's the coolest car ever! Proves that you don't have to have a Ferrari, Aston Or a Jaaaagggh to be quick as heck! And it's a Nissan, so it won't fall into a pile of rubble after 3 miles. And you can also be quite non-showoffish about it, imagine sitting at a dinner party or whatever, someone comes up to you and goes "What kind of car have you got?" All you can reply with is "A nissan". Which is great. And if the person who asks is one of the "audi cocks" and goes "I've got an Rs6, *smug smile*" You simply reply with, "Mines a GT-R" And they'll shut up after that. :) No idea why i'm going on about this though...

@Joey: "so it won't fall into a pile of rubble after 3 miles." yeah that's why you loose the warranty on the gearbox if you dare to use the launch control... using the launch control simply destroys the gearbox on that car... I don't think that a Porsche, Ferrari suffer similar disadvantages with their LC's... Also you have no idea how much bhp you're getting in the roadcar, some have been tested on a dyno and showed that they had 50-75bhp LESS then it should have...

well, that proves that if you have twice the money for a GT-R, you should prolly go buy a ferrari. but for its money, the GT-R is a great supercar. p.s. i still dont believe that the gearbox will brake down when using LC. Clarkson tested it too, and i dont recall hearing anything about that.

@Barracuda: Allright, didn't know the stuff about the LC, but if you ignore that, the rest of the car should at least be well made. And in real life, how often do you really use a LC? Only on tracks.. And what you said about the BHP, isn't that because every engine is hand- built? I could live with that, it's still got a lot of power. And according to the TG presenters, very very easy to drive, which means in the hands of an unexperienced racing- driver (me), it would probably be easier & quicker than an F430, and probably less dangerous than a 911 Turbo. But i really don't know, i've never tried any of them, and probably never will. And from what i said before, it's less show-off than an F430, and less common than a 911, and a whole lot cheaper, i beleive. So in overall, i love it. a malfunctioning LC system won't bring that down.

@Barracuda989 Yep, you might loose the warranty if you use the LC too much but you can still launch the car like a rocketship without it. And yes, some were tested at the dyno with 50-75bhp less but some were tested with more than 20-60bhp than indicated. What can you expect from a hand built V6 engine? And it is the only car in TG that broke Clarkson's neck without crashing but with just pure brutal force.

Barracuda have you went to a nissan dealer to get information on the gtr or you just reading and writing. I own this car and the warranty in not voided if you use LC it's voided if you abuse it and that's the only way someone can brake LC if you use it over and over. The gear box is not that soft most people writing crap about this car never drove it never even got close to the car to be negative. And driver who brake the gear box simple just can't drive put them in any car they'll brake something. The gtr awesome heck i am excited just to open the garage i don't no how nissan did it but they made one of the best car on the planet.
