This is the Peugeot 5008, a new MPV set to go on sale in the UK early next year.

If you're struggling to figure out how it fits into the Peugeot line-up - especially with the 3008 crossover arriving soon - you're not alone. The 5008 is a C4 Picasso rival - in fact, in shares a number of components with the Citroen - and available in five- or seven-seat guise, like the Toyota Verso. Unlike the Picasso, there will be no visual differences between the five- and seven-seaters.

Though based on a stretched version of the Peugeot 3008 platform (which also underpins the 308), the 5008 is a size bigger than the 3008, and represents Peugeot's first foray into the mid-sized MPV market.

It should be a versatile thing: the second row features three separate seats which recline, and slide back and forth. They can be folded flat, as can the front passenger seat and two seats in the third row, should you spec them.

The 5008 will also get a neat head-up display showing essential information on a translucent panel which extends from the top of the instrument screen.

As you'd expect, it gets a decent range of engines: 120bhp and 156bhp petrols, and three diesels ranging from 110bhp to 163bhp. No word on a GTI version, strangely.

We'll see the 5008 in the metal in Frankfurt this autumn before it reaches UK roads early in 2010. Expect prices to start at around £15,000.

Doesn't look too bad. Big headlights work on big cars. Although if it's only Renault Scenic sized, than it looks bigger than it is. Don't like that tail lights though, and who thought white leather would be a good idea in a car full of children? But what we really need is an 8008 to replace the awful 807. Some families still need big MPVs, you know! Soon the only one left will be the Ford Galaxy.

Finally a new Pergeot without their huge "basking shark" mouth at the front. Best looking car they've made in years.

Impressive...why can't all the noses look like that? Peugeot does remember how to make a car that looks good, and as for the back lights, they'll just about do if you compare it with the back of a 308sw...

Looks good, this is the first Peugeot to debut the new family face I think. Looks good, and whilst the Picasso influence is clear, the interior looks very classy indeed. Well done Peugeot.
